The ability to add a Marker, anywhere within a bar, not just at the beginning.
From Live Help 18June2014
I want to add a "Marker" part way through bar 4 (after the "intro"). I position the cursor and click on the Insert Marker button on the toolbar. The Markers window opens, as well as the Insert Marker window. The latter shaows the time as "4 - 1 - 398". I type in the Name box, "V1" then OK. When the text displays in the Tracks window, it shows it at the BEGINNING of bar 4 and not at the point shown at the Time where I had the cursor. Is this normal? Is ALL marker text placed at the beginning of the bar, and cannot be displayed part way through a bar? Thanks. Kallum That 4-1-398 is setting the marker on beat 1 of bar 4. Lloyd S OK so you CANNOT set marker text anywhere but at the beginning of a measure, correct? Kallum Does it let you change the 1 to another number? Lloyd S Yes I can change it to say, 4:4:000 but it still displays the text at the beginning of the bar, instead of moving it toward the end. Kallum Yes, it's just going to show in the tracks window that there's a marker in that bar. Lloyd S In that case, when you open the "Insert Marker" window, there's no point in having 3 boxes for "Time" values, since it only recognizes the first one. I'll add this to the Wish List also. Thanks!

Exact marker placement is very handy while editing audio. It slows down the workflow and detracts from creative thinking when you have to hunt for edit points each time.

+1 I use the markers to plan a bit what i want to do when i record a track.
Used it also also to alert when my buddy should come in on the next chorus ...
Helped him a lot as it reduced the takes as i did the pre-planning and he could see it as "instructions" on the screen......
I'm doing allright for Country Trash ....
I used to care, but things have changed (Bob Dylan)

In a DAW that I used to use, you could just right-click anywhere in the "row" that has the bar numbers (any window), and an entry box would pop up with the cursor in it, ready for you to type your comment, text etc.
Then just hit Enter to continue working. No slowdown in workflow.
It would also place a small "marker" in that row, in the position where you right clicked. If you needed to edit the text, you simply double clicked on the marker. If you needed to move the marker, you would just drag it to where you needed it.
LLOYD S
OK, I went back to that old DAW just to be sure, and that's not quite how it works. There is already a "waiting" marker, in the upper left corner of the bar-number row. You just grab it and drag it where you want it, then up pops the "enter text" box, PLUS a "Marker time" box you can either type values into, or use the spin buttons (but you don't need to do either).
The marker itself is just a small triangular shaped "flag" at the top of a line, and when you drag-and-set it, it puts a "marker line" vertically, all the way through the (say) bars window.

I use markers for a variety of reasons, all of which would benefit from more resolution in marker positioning

I like the way Audacity implements markers; add one or more marker tracks.
Each marker track can be vertically positioned as desired. Each marker track extends the length of the timeline. Marker track content can be exported as a simple text file detailing marker location on the timeline (with precision down to the sample) and content inside each marker text box. If you want you can position one marker track next to the timeline and insert markers to identify each song part then additional marker tracks next to each audio track to insert comments and edit locations or just have one marker track to do it all.
Markers can be created by pressing F11 (?) When the focus is on a marker track or by a left mouse click inside a marker track. Each marker is a movable (click & drag) bullseye and has a unlimited text box. You can use your mouse or tab key to move between markers.
Finally, the software code is open source with a Creative Common license so the feature can be added with little effort or cost.
