I recently started a marketing campaign which is working rather well, and I'd like to share it with other musicians.
What I do is this: I subscribed to an autoresponder service: the best one is
Trafficwave:
It's easy to work with, and inexpensive.
Then, I set up a series of weekly letters, with links to a download of one of my tracks. So everybody who subscribes, gets a free track of my music to download each week. So why am I giving my music away for free? Simply because the people downloading my tracks are also told where they can download other tracks at a fee, or buy the CDs (from CD Baby etc). I figure that it's a good idea to give in order to get. And when my next CD is due for release, I've got a fan base I can send out a notice to at the touch of a button.
You can have a look at how my system works by going to
Free Gentle Jazz You may not be into my kind of music (mellow sax and tinkling piano etc.) but have a look at the system and feel free to copy it.
Incidentally, Ed Bulmer (from this forum) was my first subscriber, and he's been a great help in pointing out and helping me to fix technical glitches. Thanks again Ed!
Good luck and Regards
Mike Laatz
