I'm trying to find an old thread I joined in on years ago (i.e. not mine) and cannot for the life of me remember the subject header or even where exactly it was posted. Now, I do remember a line of expression that I used, but if I just put that phrase into the search field, I get loads of hits where ANY of those words happened to have been used eek

So, you forum veterans in here - what's the right way to get there?

Have you tried quotation marks around your search criteria?

For example, I just did a search where I included my display name in the search and then just searched for: coyote forte

I received 58 matches.

I then went back and changed the search criteria to "coyote forte" with quotation marks.

I received 27 matches.

Yes, that was my last attempt before I just caved in and decided to ask here. It gave no results smirk

It's been some time since the forum search function was discussed, but the consensus several years ago was to use Google. There is a way to format a Google query to search within a site.

Well, that sounds a bit 'defeatist' to me, pardon me for saying...ok, I'll give this a mull over, thanks for chiming in.

If you know who said it, try to include their username in the advanced search in this site.

That has helped me a couple times.

The reason Google is suggested here is that this forum is very well indexed (and quickly). You could probably search an exact phrase from this thread and find it.
It's not 'defeatist', it's using a different search model to find your desired result in a timely fashion, and has worked for some.

Edit:
I searched your phrase above and it was top of the list linking to this forum!

I tried that on google's webpage just like in your image there and didn't find what I was looking for (which btw was said by me, so yes I had that information)...but!
Then I remembered that other "Search" field the PG site has - on the front page - and that one finally found the pesky li'l trickster!

So there we have our happy ending at last, yayh laugh
