I thought A LOT about what Herb had posted yesterday about how threads go completely off topic...sometimes never to return.

I belong to a grand total of 1 forum. This one.

Does anyone know if there would be a way to give more control to the thread poster to be able to delete any post that would take the thread in a different direction? I would definitely keep threads pure to the point.

As I say this, there is a discussion that I would to love continue; but realize it's already so far off topic. What do you do. It's gone this way on it's own in a BIG way. The OP seems fine with it and is participating in the discussion; so I'm thinking it's ok. However, had they not wanted it to go this way, they would have been able to stop it much sooner.

One other small problem is, if you do try to move the subject to a new thread, many times (not always) it fizzles out.

Any thoughts?

I don't think it's a good idea, HTL, the reason being that the person that started the thread would then be able to delete any comments or opinions he/she may not agree with.

I would say try and start a new thread and see what happens? If it's a topic others are interested in participating in they will jump on board.

[please note that the above comment made by HEREtwoLearn is not meant to be taken literally. It's is a simple attempt, by a simple man, at humor. In the event someone where to take the comment "at face value" it would beneficial to understand that this strange sense of humor is shared by more than one person on the forum. Steve, aka "sslechta" is another one of those people who happens to understand and share in that. So, if the comments are deduced to be rude, or offending, please know they were not meant specifically for you or any kind of bullying capacity towards Steve. I do hope, however, Steve sees my response as humorous as I do his. Perhaps a forum is not place to be having such shenanigans; as it has create a fair amount of turmoil at different points.]

That's the point...but more so comments that lead the conversation away from the intent of the thread. This happens A LOT. I'm not pointing fingers, I'm as guilty as anyone.

If someone disagrees, they always have the option of starting their own thread. So, it's not like their voice wouldn't be heard.

As an example, with Steve's comment, if I felt it wouldn't apply, I could simply delete it and Steve could go start a thread about his jar of toenails. But since it is very relevant and essential to this thread I would obviously choose to keep it.

I have been both an admin and moderator on a couple of large boards. I think that it's best to confine post deletion or thread closure to situations where things get 1) too political/religious via mean spirited personal attacks, 2) other personal attacks or 3) profane. "Completely Off-Topic" can be at times hard to define...I used to struggle with that and typically ended up just letting the thread run it's course -- albeit a belabored course.

The biggest problem I dealt with on both boards was that "Please Don't Feed The Trolls" signage was not effective smile And I would never have given an OP the option to delete responses. That assumes waaaaay too much faith in EVERY member.

Yes, more of a server than PC. I use it for video producing, flight simming, and music.

I'm with Bud on this. Easy to start a new thread and move on. If something goes awry in a current thread, moderators and PG staff can and should have arbitrary control.

In the meantime, I'll be looking for a new thread called ------

A discussion that I would to love continue

I think topic control is very important on large tech forums that are used primarily for answering questions about products. But anybody who has spent much time on this forum knows that an awful lot of the posts are friendly banter, which naturally lends itself to rabbit trail forks in the discussion. If we had a virtual checkerboard, this would be the modern equivalent of townfolk congregating on the porch with rocking chairs, sharing tales of our glory days.

If friendly banter is the goal, let the conversation go where it will.
If searchable tech responses are the goal.. well, I think those posts naturally lead to succinct responses.

That's impressive in both speed AND size of notepad. How many lyrics are in that song you're writing?

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
