I'm looking for something for my android phone that would allow me to tap rhythms that I could export to midi.

It doesn't have to be a drum machine type of thing but I would just rather not have it a pitched instrument. There are times I just want to work on rhythm without thinking of pitch yet.

I found a fair number of apps, but seem to be either pitched, can't export midi, or are loop based (so you have 8, 16 bars) kind of thing.

The other thing I've run into are the drum grid/machine pattern programs. Not that either.

Anyone have any suggestions? thanks!

Oh yeah, LOW latency would be needed. So many have too much lag.

I did find this, but couldn't figure out if it could record anything beyond the step sequencer. The piano version can by the looks of it.

Drum Machine

Unfortunately Android does not have low latency i/o built in like iOS does. That is why there are countless music making apps for iOS and nearly none for Android, even though the user base is way more Android phones than iPhones

There are a few developers trying to make instruments for Android but my understanding is that they have to write their own code for intaerfacing the data inside the device. iOS has Core Audio and Core Midi as part of the OS just waiting there for the developer to build upon

Also, asking for drum tap entry without it being loop based is outside of the normal workflow. My suggestion is to just buy an old iPhone or iPad and GarageBand or any of the other myriad apps and save yourself the hassle of trying to find a mystery product for Android. If you do buy an iphone check compatibility with phone model with the apps of interest first.

Thanks for the response. I guess I would be ok with it being loop based if it could be a bit longer than 8 bars. 16 would be ok, but a little longer even better.

I honestly don't care about the sounds beyond the latency issue; but understand what you are saying. I just feel there has to be something...even crappy, that would work. lol

I would really rather not have to carry more things around for those inspirational moments. I would like to have it in hand ready to go.

Thanks again.
