Pretty sure that 2.0.1.3 is the latest version (I just looked at the program updates page).
I've only used it occasionally, and it's never crashed on me, so unfortunately I can't help you there.
Looks like you've found a working solution, however. I might would just create a little batch file that does the file substitution and then launches Metronome Pro.

Band-in-a-Box 2026 Video: AI Stems & Notes - split polyphonic audio into instruments and transcribe
This video demonstrates how to use the new AI-Notes feature together with the AI-Stems splitter, allowing you to select an audio file and have it separated into individual stems while transcribing each one to its own MIDI track. AI-Notes converts polyphonic audio—either full mixes or individual instruments—into MIDI that you can view in notation or play back instantly.
