Hey man I just spend a little time your music page and I just wanted you to know that I had almost forgot just how mellow your playing is. Very smooth indeed.

Thanks for the compliment, Danny! It is much appreciated. Still trying to learn how to play, still on the journey. Aloha.

Well said, ...As we all are!

Lee, I just listened to them too... really excellent! and thanks for the link.
I need to learn to play a nice piece like that ("One for the Guitar") from begining to end...
Any chance you can send me a copy of the TABs and BIAB background tracks for that song? I am willing to pay...

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the kind words. Mac, when you turned me on to Martino's videos you added another 25 years to my life because it's gonna take me that long to get through all of his material! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Been watching the freezing weather over there, Dan. Whew! There are no words.......

Dick, I don't have any tabs for One For the Guitar Players, and the tracks are long gone. I can tell you that I used a lot of jazz minor arpeggios for the VI dominants that I got from Emily Remler's video. Sorry. And if I still had the tracks I'd give them to you, wouldn't think of charging anything for them.

Thanks Lee. It's too bad you don't have the tracks for it. It's really nice. Did you write the song yourself? I've been listening to it over and over all day. This might be one that I'd have to spend time transcribing... it will be a good exercise. I've only been playing for a little over a year now but I am getting better and better every day. LOL.

I'm also going to look up Emily Remler's video but if I don't find it, I'll ask you for a link. And re MAC's tip about Martino... which Martino is that? I'd like to look into that as well.

Aloha!

Pat Martino.

Modern Jazz and Bebop guitarist of my generation.

Pat is amazing. He suffered a brain tumor and, after the operation, lost all memory of the fantastic guitar playing that he had recorded. The man had to learn again from the beginning and he did so by transcribing himself! Great story, his mother nursed him back to health, and, in order to stimulate his memory, she decorated the house and his room like it was back when he was a kid, she dressed in period clothes and did everything she could to help him get his memory and playing skills back. it worked.

My brother plays gigs occasionally with Pat. Marshall sez that Pat can "sure play a whole lotta guitar!" -- and I agree with that assessment.

My kinda jazz/bop player, Pat is a Philadelphian born natural with a solid Blooz background. A Master at the "Philly Groove" -- Pat can deal wit' de bros and then some. This guy loves to lay it down. When still a teenager he toured with Jack McDuff in the organ trio. Solid education from Jack, Pat is one of the "organ trio guitar legends" at this point, there is even now the "Pat Martino Organ Trio" where Tony Monaco plays the B3 but takes a backseat in the billing. If you can listen to some of the Joey DeFrancesco CD, Live at Yoshi's, you can hear a wonderful set of Pat holding court with Joey at the helm. Definitive. All Blues gets a resurrection here.

Websearch and Youtube should bring up plenty.

Thanks again MAC... I feel stupid asking who Martino is... not knowing such a famous guy... hopefully it will have the same impact on me as it has/had on so many others (incl Aloha Lee). And your brother has played with him? Lucky guy I must say.

Thanks again MAC & Lee

Dick,
Mac's bro is first sax of the Count Basie Orchestra, if I recall correctly.

Hi Gary, thanks much. Mac's brother used to play with Lionel Hampton too. Seriously good player.

Hey Mac, I got a new amp (didn't even ask the wife, just went ahead and had it shipped in from New York ), a 140 watt Polytone Minibrute V with the 15" speaker and two horns. It has a preamp out that I'm patching into a JBL PRX512, a powered 500 watt cab. I am so in love with the tone from both my strat and 175. I'm driving everybody nuts over here.

Dan, I see from your profile that you're kinda just starting out on the journey. Good for you! Yes, transcribing is an excellent exercise. Mac taught me that. Transcribe the notes, then figure out where they are coming from. That's the key. Look for Emily Remler's DVD - Advanced Latin and Jazz Improvisation. She gives a great lesson about two ways of using the jazz minor scale against dominant chords. And Martino, well, his Creative Force DVD has enough stuff on it to last a lifetime. That's way cool, because it will keep me busy for the rest my life, that's for sure.

Ooh, *drool*...

I may have to follow in your footsteps, the old MiniBrute II with 15 is still here and still kickin'.

Jazz w/earplugs, anyone?

Hi Lee, just finished listening Emily Remler's DVD - Advanced Latin and Jazz Improvisation... Thank you very much for the tip... I learned something new... I like those Jazz minor scales ideas over the dominant 7 chords. She was very easy to follow and listen to... of course mastering them will take a whole lot longer LOL.

I haven't had a chance to do much with Martino yet... my first impression was he's a lot harder to understand... YET! LOL. But I will get into his stuff more gradually.

I think after Emily's DVD... I'll have a little easier time transcribing your song...

BTW, I also tried to use BIAB's Chord Wizard... but I can't get my head wrapped around using that thing yet... I've watched the video too -- but I don't understand what I need to do yet to get even past the first step. Another project... I may have to call PG Music one day and have someone walk me through the steps...

Lee, I also checked out that new amp you got yourself.... sounds like a nice little thing... Boys and their Toys!!! I've so far avoided asking my wife about buying anything... I got myself the Bose L1 Compact over Christmas and I have my eyes on a Larry Carlton ES-335... but can't justify it to myself yet after having just bought my ES-339 which sounds and feels just as good if not better.... I have also been pining for Robert Conti's custom Peerless guitar for half the price of the 335...

MAC, you and your family are truly a talented bunch of people.... LOL. And your help here is truely priceless and I do really appreciate it.

Dick
