These issues are getting less problematic but more complex. I find I need several pieces of software to get where I want to go. BIAB, Several DAW's, Melodyne, a zillion VST's just to name a few.

It is not too difficult to get something plausible, but producing a polished piece of work has always been and most likely always will be a lot of really hard work.

The most frustrating part of the work is learning the vagrancies of the software. Working to create the musical part is not so much work as it is fun.

Unless one has outside resources, creating music if pretty difficult in general no matter how you go about it. It is not everyone and certainly not me who can sing and play all the instruments I want to use.

We have the tools with the internet to work together as a group. Video conferencing makes it possible to work together from all over the world. Of course the delay caused by the speed of transmission prevents perfect actual real time work and the way we use the internet supports a sort of passive involvement in anything. It may not be like being in the same room but this does and can work pretty well.

We need to get smarter, become better teachers, better students, and more tolerant.

Cheers,

Billy

“Amazing! I’ll be working with Jaco Pastorius, Charlie Parker, Art Tatum, and Buddy Rich, and you’re telling me it’s not that great of a gig?
“Well…” Saint Peter, hesitated, “God’s got this girlfriend who thinks she can sing…”
