I noticed the other day that Youtube has placed ads on one of our music videos. I am aware that they changed their protocols last fall whereas they now can monetize your videos at their discretion even if you are not a "YT Partner" (which you can only become with around a zillion views). If you are a partner you collect money from the ads and if so desired can opt out of having ads on your video.
So folks like us can now get monetized but YT keeps 100% of the revenue. Really. However when I see YT videos posted by other forum members I don't see ads. If a YT creator Have you experienced this?
Thanks,
Bud

I don't put up videos very often but they've never had YouTube ads put in them. If there's any settings you want me look at in my profile, let me know. I've been putting videos on for about 10 years.

Thanks Steve. We've been uploading them about the same amount of time. YT introduced this policy last November but it didn't get really cranked up with it until this past spring. They specifically state that there is no way to opt out unless you are a YT Partner. There's quite an uproar over it. As mentioned they can choose to place ads on anybody's video any time that's not a partner. Why me? No idea. Unless it's random. I have about 30 vids and this is the only one they have monetized.

We have also started to see adds on our youtube videos as of the last few months. It seems that the add gets placed on whichever video is the most recent??
Hmmmm, my church as been doing YouTube sermon videos since COVID. We found we had a market with shut-ins and kept creating the videos after we started attending in person again.
I have never seen one of our videos with an ad attached.
There must be a setting somewhere... I will look and see.
As far as I know, it's based on the number of views you're getting.
It used to be the case that YouTube didn't take anything seriously until a video had received over 300 views. I imagine that by now there will be an algorithm with a threshold, using your total lifetime views and number of subscribers.
We've got approaching a quarter of a million views and over 1k subscribers and we used to be a YT partner until they changed the rules, but we still get ads placed on all our videos. There's progress for you ....
Settings Channel Advanced settings Slide to the bottom of the popup page.
That option works only if you are a YouTube partner. And for the millions of us who aren't we have no choice. Really.

This will not solved your problem. That being said, I'm not sure if you are aware that people with youtube TV and people with Youtube Premium don't see any of those ads. I get there are a good number of people that don't have those services, but there is a growing number of people do...and for good reason.
For me, it was a no brainer. We did a family plan years ago and it gave us 6 accounts with ad free youtube AND each of those accounts included youtube music (similar to Apple Music, Spotify..) at NO additional cost! Total per month for our entire family is $14.88. I only say this; because it seems as though it may start bringing people to the idea of not having to watch ads by enticing them with a music service included. It's kind of a ridiculously low price in my opinion.
Now, of course, my kids decided they also "needed" Apple Music and/or Spotify to share lists with their friends. They pay for those on their own, so all good by me. They still love watching youtube without ads anyway.
Like I said, doesn't solve your problem. I and many others, won't see those ads anyway. FWIW
Maybe have Janice sing a duet with "The Biebs" as a work around.
Best of luck!
Chad (Hope that makes it easier)

Thanks! I was not aware of that. However, I would suspect that the majority of folks who watch our vids do not subscribe and thus would see the ads. I uploaded a vid to YT several weeks ago that got a couple hundred views in short order. I think that might have triggered the ads.
But I have resolved this by subscribing today to Vimeo. Clean interface and no ads for anybody if the creator is a subscriber.
I'd rather pay them $7 a month then stay with YT. What a business model YT has. Make money off millions and millions of users and not return one cent unless they become a Partner. And that takes 1000 subscribers to your channel and 4,000 hours of play a year. Hmmmm....how many folks does that eliminate? The net is lit up with folks that are incensed over this relatively new scenario. Oh, and for my vid they are sometimes running back to back one minute ads that cannot be skipped.

Hummmm, I am pretty sure my church is not a YouTube partner.
It make sense though with the numbers of viewers. Right now about a dozen a week. Terrible for most YouTubers but these are our shut-ins that do not make it to church or to the store or to wherever. Win for them.
I have AdBlock for Youtube and don't remember the last time I saw an ad.
+1
But my thoughts were not about me rwther with the folks who kindly watch our vids. Many are likely casual YT users and do not have the block app. I refuse to subject them to prostrate ads and will be moving our vids to Vimeo.
Addendum: gotta leave how my phone changed the word prostate. Thank Eddie

There are ads that promote lying stretched out on the ground with your face downward?
Ads of any kind I find offensive and intrusive. I refuse to listen to commercial radio anymore, and that's likely the reason I know zero about current music. When I watch TV I mute the ads. Sundays are trying when I watch football games. Sometimes I don't get to the mute fast enough and some of that advertising garbage reaches my ears.
You'd be doing your viewers and friends a service to point them toward Adblock for Youtube in the Chrome extension store. As long as you are logged into a Google account and log into Youtube on the same account you will never see an ad again. I believe that forced ads violate every privacy principle there is. But that's me.

Hahaha- good ole iPhone spell checker. I doubt our viewers are logged into YouTube. I never do except when via Apple TV we settle into a frequent evening YT music session. Plus my friends FWIW tend toward Apple world and Safari. Gotta check and see if it’s available for Safari. I think I saw there was an iOS app.

I have never used Safari, Bud. Does it get ads on Youtube like I do on Windows?
The main reason I like Chrome is the amount of plugins available to block ads. I think I have 4 different ad blockers.
I use one ad blocker with Safari and it blocks everything but YT. Reckon I need to check out the YT specific blocker but as mentioned most of our YT watching is through Apple TV. I realize that ads are necessary for businesses but YT's are relentless, intrusive, long and often completely inappropriate for the projected audience of the vid.
Before I read your comment re Chrome (never used it) I read this morning about an urgent upgrade for it due to security issues. Can't remember the source as it came through my google news feed. Does Chrome block all trackers of your activity? Safari does and you can click on any website anytime and see who it has blocked. There are very, very, very few websites that block trackers. Often on a site I will note a dozen trackers at any moment being blocked by Safari.
