Ed: thanks :-) I knew the pieces well, so the first thing I did was choose the background - I wanted those drums in the background, so it would sound as if the piece was being played on a battlefield or something. Then I added the harp as the Bach accompaniment and, for the Gounod melody, I chose the muted trumpet and then the panflute, so that there would be - again - a military-type sound to it. Finally, in the second part, I added a background choir and strings, to give it that extra ethereal-like quality. I then gave it a preset church reverb and listened for balance.
