By the way, “ticking over” is alien to an American. Does it mean something like “in progress”?

I'll investigate the ostinato.
Ticking over in Oz often refers to something working quietly in the background or idling ready to go.
The I.A. interpretation of the lyric shows the strengths and weaknesses of I.A. Interesting.
When it can interpret puns it'll be really I.
Oh, I've altered the final chord and made it ambiguous.

I agree with B.D. about building the instruments up, even if you gradually let them down again.

Thanks Vic.
There're some arrangement changes in the latest mix which may, or may not, achieve the aim.

Very nicely done!
And then the drums came in. So nice!
But there is a lot more to listen to, like the melody itself and that organ. That has a very important role. Liked it!
If I listen carefully I can hear "Oooh, la, la laaa", so I am curious how you gonna sing those very long and cool, but sometimes, not easy to understand, lyrics (for a poor Dutchman).
Are you also planning a kind of chorus in the song?
As I said, I'm curious...
Hans

Thanks Hans,
The lyrics are a mix of recollections from 50s/60s suburban Australia as well as references to the evil that is often forgotten in the nostalgia.
I've added oohs and such.

I wonder how less aggressive, sinatraesque vocals would sound on it? Thank you for sharing.
Misha.

Misha,
I'm in accord with you regarding the style of vocal - well, at least for the verses.
I've sorted the melody & phrasing now - just need a voice.
Thanks!

Ta peter,
yes, a little nostalgia blended with the bits nostalgia neglects.
I agree regarding the solo...but it needs it. I hope to replace it with something that can stand a lot less.

Excellent tune Ray. Could relate to most of the things mentioned in the lyrics. Going to be a very cool song..

Thanks Scott,
I assumed quite a few were common, (given the US origins & ubiquity on TV), and hoped they'd translate. You've let me know they do...ta.

“In the 50s of silence
The 60s of obey
There was no escape
There was no chance to say”

“And the itsby bitsy spider
From behind its rock came out
With the power of authority
As our parents would spout.”

“The danger not strangers but those in the hive.”

The above lines are profound and scary.

We started with the draft vocal version and it did not disappoint.

We like your bass part and the vocal ... bring it up at least 2 db smile
The drum work paid off as they really pop in the good way.
The RT solo bits set in very nicely.
And it is all surrounded by a nice arrangement and soundstage.

Well done and hugely thought provoking.

J&B

PS We did a song a while back featuring vignettes of folks for whom the good ole days were not so good at all.

Hy Rayc,

Your words are thought-provoking. The choirs are excellent and the chord sequence is always highly sought after. Beautiful harmony in the background. Well done.

I got just about all the references. REALLY good lyrics.

I listened to the third link you posted. Vocal level sounds good. I'm glad it's not buried in the mix.

I don't know what you used for the "ooooo" BGV, but I liked it. Sort of a 60s sci-fi vocal.
