One band I was in went to Canada for 12 week tours. When we'd go to a city for a second time a year later girls used to come to the stage and hold up babies as they compared them to the guys in the band.

Back when I was on the road, we went back to a club in Michigan, two months after we left, and a girl's mother came in with her daughter, and tried to put her with me. But the girl was huge, much more than three months along, so that didn't fly. It was a sad situation.

I always asked the girls if they were "safe", which was the code name for "on the pill (birth control)" back then. If they said no, I had other means of protection.

It just seemed like the right thing to do. I figured I was protecting the girls as much as I was protecting myself.

But still, you never know.

Occasionally, when something like this thread reminds me, I think of one or two of those wonderful women, and I get pleasant memories.

I fondly remember the road days, and I'm also still having a great time with my musician/friend/lover/wife in our duo, still making music, still entertaining people, still having fun, and making memories together.

Life is the perfect way to spend the time of day.
