Reference "the path": In today's world, folks might say something like, "We bought a new house last month. It has five rooms and a bath." Back in the day (I grew up in the forties and fifties), many country folks didn't have an indoor toilet - they had an outhouse. Due to the repetitive use, a path would appear from the house to the outhouse. Thus, in this case, six rooms and a path. (path, rather than a bath).
