Using a database it the way to go IMHO.
If you have MS Office you can convert an Excel file into an Access file. I'm sure there are other spreadsheet to database conversion programs available for other databases.

In a database all one has to do is to search for keywords like jazz, country, folk, etc and all styles with said word will show. No need to add other columns of data. YMMV.
