...I'm just trying to do a quick Real Book tune practice track for a student. I've got the melody to Blue Bossa, which I set for 3 choruses(groan). So, it's repeating the form, with solo in the middle chorus, mute melody. I know I shouldn't use repeats, but it should be pretty simple, no?
I just want to repeat the last 4 bars two more times, with Holds on the last time(4 bars). I used a Tag, but I can't get the melody from the last 4 bars into the tag. What am I missing?

1. i dont bother with repeats i just lay out the whole chord sheet... why you might ask ? why is that daft om doing that ? well because...
2. i can use layers feature in bb to enter in words things like intro or verse 3 or chorus one or bridge or various forms of preceeding.
i just find for me this works better so i can see all the time the complete arrangement for a song on the screen. ie kiss concept. i used to find i got lost with a shorter chord sheet with repeats...particularly if there are more than a few 'different' repeats.
hth..n happy upcoming xmas ...

@DrDan. for me i find working in reaps v2 a much simpler environment. done oodles of tunes with it and rb and bb. give it a crack sometime mate. you might be surprised. i love it cos its so lightweight and it handles pg dx fx and other plugins grrreat. and even reports plugin pc useage and a ton of editing features.

I've had no end of issues trying to get tags and melodies to behave after repeats.
I eventually realised that an option was to use the auto-generated ending and "Start the ending two bars early" to exit the loops, rather than trying to use first/second endings with a tag. The last two bars of each chorus have the turnaround, the final chorus ending and a tag go after the chorus. Edit->Song Form->Settings for this song and them bottom left. After setting it up, you probably can just copy the melody bars into the tag area. You'' need to set up the tag area, of course,

Gordon's setup is the one that I also use. I generally don't have any issues with tag endings.

One thing I’ve learned is to solidify the song form with any repeats or tags early in the process, because if you change these after you have added melody, you’ll be doing a lot of editing. Spurious bits of melody can show up.

Yes, that's exactly the kind of issue to which I'm refering. When one does that, BiaB can splash melody all over the place. It seems to get things very messed up indeed. I've described it a "trashed the melody". And I have to say that it seems to me to do so pretty reliably.
For making songs for practice I now no longer try to use 1st/2nd repeats.
I note that many people also write their songs as "one big chorus", probably for the same or similar reasons.
One of the reasons that people very familiar with a particular software have fewer problems than newcomers is that the experienced people learn to not do the things that expose the problems.

I know that is why I always use "one big chorus".
