You don't use the aux channel.
You use a separate port for the tracks you want to send to the external unit.

In Audio Drivers area, make sure you have more than one output port highlited (say 1,2 and 3,4 for instance).
Then connect the unit to the second set of outputs being used on the 1010 unit (3,4 in this example).
Then select the track(s) and right-click the track name area to assign them to that secondary port.

The key to remember is in the drivers area the highlited port that is higher up in the list will be number one, the next one down will be number 2, etc.
You can change the order by using 'Move selected device to top' button, but you will have to work with the existing order on the other side. Only the highlited ports are counted and available when right-clicking to assign.

Same with inputs that are highlited.

*edit-
While it is much easier to use the delta routing ..
I should clarify; it IS possible to route the AUX to the separate outputs. That would involve assigning the AUX channel to send out one of the multiple out ports at the bottom right of the mixer, then controlling the signal via the AUX dials AND the A2 (or 3 etc) out fader at bottom right of mixer (which changes to a multiple port output when used this way... more complicated).

If this is what you were after I'll explain more later. Basicly you right click the "A1" under the desired AUX send and change it to another output like A2 (which would be audio port 2 if available and assigned in the drivers area)

Then of course you run the output from the hardware unit into another input and again make that input available in the drivers section in order to record the effected signal..

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
