Gearbox is an editor/librarian that's free for users of Line6 hardware. For POD users, it replaced Line6Edit (which is still available/useable). PODFarm is purchased as a standalone/plugin application (or comes bundled with certain hardware), to provide POD sounds/processing/editing to you DAW/sequencer/interface. I believe that you can also transfer the licensing/processing/patches back-and-forth from POD to PODFarm so that you can use one or the other (POD or PODFarm) without having to purchase processing(models)/effects for both. Yeah, yeah---not as simple as "down on the farm." Line6 software/licensing can be "a little confusing", something they make up for with software updates and enhancements and ADDED features for their hardware. My POD-XTL has paid for itself over and over and over again, now has more features/effects than when I bought it due to free updates, it has two free editor/librarians (not counting PODFarm), tons of downloadable patches, acts as a software-hardware editor/librarian interface for my VariAx, I get great user and factory support, great purchased-on-sale add-ons (models&effects), and it NEVER let me down (in continuous use since October of 2004). If anything happened to it, I'd replace it in a heartbeat (that's when the licensing nightmare would start---but you do eventually wake up from it).

This is absolutely a great time to be a musician.

To all of us working stiffs: Happy Labor Day!
