She's Got a Hold on Me Bossa-Blues --------------------------- I got real close once or twice; Dropping my guard was the price; Not too near, caught her ear, 'Twas nice, SHE'S GOT A HOLD ON ME. A scent I would know anywhere; Hint of the perfume in her hair; Drives me mad, I've got it bad, Don't care, SHE'S GOT A HOLD ON ME. Maybe that means I'm bewitched and wowed, She's got me under her spell; But I'm not even a face in the crowd Yet she keeps ringing my bell. Timid and shy Romeo Sees Juliet slip by her beau; Lurking behind, in the blind, Don't she know that SHE'S GOT A HOLD ON ME. Maybe someday if I buy a toupee And lose fifty pounds I'll seem chic; How can I get her into looking my way? Could be this large Roman beak? ---------------------------------- _RECIFE.STY. Tom,
I really like this one. It has touches of Dr. John & Randy Newman. Very nice job!

T,
A cool write. The doubled-voice effect is...effective. Nice outro

Hi, Tom. Fun lyrics. The vocal doubling was... interesting. A bit of a Michael Franks vibe. Nice work.

I really like the style and especially the electric piano. The voice is quite surprising because it seems doubled but I really liked it. Great pleasure to listen to. Laurent

Tom, entertaining song and fun arrangement. Great job using the soloists to nice effect, and the entire mix is very clear and smooth. Bold choice on the doubled octave vocals. Am going to guess you were using a plugin for the low part, just because of the artifacts. Octave doubling is a cool effect that might sound even cooler here if cleaner. Enjoyed your tune!

DC Ron..Yes, I used Nectar Elements to process the vocal, and I agree, I could sharpen it up a bit.

Hi, Tom. I was already excited reading Bossa, then you added Blues. Wow, this is cool. I like the Nectar doubleing. Now I know why they named in Nectar. Yeow, that sax soars. Barry's tone is perfect. Man, this is a fun song. Cool chord progressinon, and the 50lbs and Roman beak make it even more relatable.

Tom, a good song. Super lyrics and groove Great instrumentation - outstanding intro and ending But I didn't like the vocal doubling. The ending without it was much clearer. BUT that is only my opinion and others may not agree. Regardless this is a good song.
Doc-take it easy John this is just a sharp scalpel. It will not cut deep so don't worry. Me-I'm not John Doc-I know, I am!

Thanks Marty and Mario…the voice doubling..I guess I get pretty bored trying to get my inadequate singing voice to “sound good”..sometimes giving it a “trick” effect like this satisfies the displeasure of listening to my own voice…it’s probably not so much of a big deal on this forum, but while I’m working on projects like this I slip into “gimmickry”…

Love the chord structure and instrumentation in this. Great choice of instruments in the solo breaks, but for me - disagreeing with some others here - a really good song and arrangement is let down by the unattractive effect you used on the vocals. Have you considered using vocal tuning? If I ever get around to singing the songs I've got lined-up (I can't record vocals at home) I may well use one just to avoid flat notes.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Really nice music but the excess effect on the voice was a bit distracting...I know I do it to treat my croak into melody.

Bossa Blues - I didn't even know this genre existed Works quite well and is easy to listen to. I'm not sure about the double vocals, I think your deeper voice (without the double) sounds better to my ears.

Brilliant. Dark, beautiful, and full of humour. Loved everything about it, the solo guitar, sax, etc . The lyrics are brilliant, the double octave effect works a treat ... really, really excellent. Thanks for sharing this with us!

All, thanks for the kind comments and for voting "for/against" the doubling!

Successful combination of bossa and blues with enjoyable chord progression. Nice duel of the sax and the solo guitar, the piano and the organ add pleasant textures. Clever, romantic and fun lyrics, "large Roman beak" - nice way to end with some humor.

That is an excellent engaging and witty write. Doubling vocals is a fun venture. When we do it we vary the formant a wee bit but haven't done an octave. (A big ole grain of salt and a FWIW too! Excellent mix and, man, that sax solo is standout! Enjoyed it! J&B
