Thanks Ron, I do appreciate to get also advices how to improve my productions. You hit to the point: my weakness is my singing, because I am not a real singer. In bands I have played, has always been real vocalists, so I was at my home playing rhythm guitar and also banjos and mandolins. Now, when I produce songs at my home alone, I have to sing myself.
To hide my weak voice (I was a high tenor with lost high register by ageing - I'm 71) I have tried every trick of the trade: compression, reverberation, a short delay as voice fattener and even RealTune. I have got remarks, that they make vocals too muddy and reverb. I agree.
So I have in my latest recordings trusted more to my natural voice with it's fragility and stopped using to much effects.
The best encouraging comment I got from a young man: I can hear the miles behind you, which gives respect to your singing.
I am fond of the late recordings of Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, so I try to follow them, but of course on a lower level as an amateur.
