This is my first attempt to use SynthV...I'm singing a duet with Natalie. I'm not 100% satisfied with the rendering at certain points. I'm also interested in any feedback on levels, balancing, etc. Thanks in advance for comments--I need the feedback on this!
-----------------------------
Oh, Labrador!

Faded wisps of memory of one summer
When we were so young;
We laughed in the sun
As we chased the birds away;
Could we catch that mem'ry
If we traced those steps today?

Blissful days by the ocean;
Light, sweet breezy evenings;
Slow-moving rivers,
Fast-fading days;
Oh, Labrador!
We can't forget those days.

Remembering the images that haunt us,
The stories we've told;
Is it all still there?
There's a thirst to see and unfold;
Those secrets from our childhood--
Will we find that mem'ries just won't hold ?

Blissful days by the ocean,
Light, sweet breezy evenings;
Slow-moving rivers,
Fast-fading days;
Let's go and explore;
Let's look for Labrador!
--------------------------------------------
I didn't use a BIAB style.
The piano and flute were built from a collection of samples--I pieced it together bar by bar.

I think you have a really good start here. Here are my suggestions that you may take or discard as I am not a pro.
1-the song's total volume was very low. I had to turn up my monitors' volume a lot. Note that I always set my songs' volume to -3dB.
2-I thought the backing tracks could come up in volume to make a better mix
3-your vocal was very good
4-the synth vocal was not convincing BUT it was very good considering it was your first attempt at using a synth vocal. I do not have any synth voices so I can not suggest anything on improving them.
5-great lyrics

I think this song has a ton of potential.

Note those were just my suggestions and other may or may not agree.

Nice bossa. Really like your jazz standard style of writing, and your vocals here are really nice. I agree with Mario on the levels, they are a bit all over the place. Some very nice duet passages with Natalie, am sure with time you'll get a more natural overall vocal. Think you're on the right track. Am surprised you had to build a piano track for this since the BiaB bossa pianos are often quite serviceable. But so long as you're having FUN, that's what matters.

Very nice use of Natalie's voice. The song is very good but I will see the piano bass drums trio again but it's my modest opinion.
I agree with Mario, the song could be great by refining some details.

Thank you all for the comments…I have revised the levels to bring the instruments up. While I’m impressed with what Synth V can do, I’m not 100%sold on it..and I spent a lot of time just trying to get it to where it is now—I found that to be creatively exhausting—probably just my inexperience with it.

Tano/Tom,

I am not familiar at all with the use of the synth voice tool, but if this is your first attempt at using it, it sounds fantastic to me! I really dig that laid-back jazzy sound of the track! There is a lot of potential here in this tune! As already mentioned by someone, I was desiring a little bit more volume, but it still works fine for me!

Take care, TB

Tom,

I can feel the influence of Tom Jobim strongly.
It's a very beautiful piece.
I think you deliberately used piano where guitar would normally be the accompaniment.
It's a very tasteful piece.
The duet with Natalie was also wonderful.
I was a bit surprised by the sudden ending.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Torrey and Shigeki.. thank you for listening and your feedback. My preference would be to have two "real" singers, but it was an experiment with the Synth voice. And, Shigeki, you are correct-- the piano carries both the rhythm and the chord harmony--i was attracted to this approach.

I thought the S5 vocal was great, I would definitely go this direction if I were you. You might get a male voice like Hayden, too, then I think you'd be golden. Not sure what others' nit-picking was about re Natalie, she sounded great. Song and lyrics were solid, too.

Ok, Tom. You throw in a title like that, and I;m all in. We've always had 3 labs. Wow, I really like the feel of this one, and it's so cool with the trading voices. You two sing well together, and I can only imagine how difficult it is to get those synth voices to comply with your wishes, buy it sure sounds to me like you've got a good handle on the process. Excellent lyrics and a well-presented production.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Beautiful instrumentation - excellent use of BiaB - but I'm not keen on SynthV vocals. I've only heard a couple of guys use SynthV where the vocals sound real. I've tried with it and failed and instead went for hiring Fiverr vocalists.

For a first effort the synth vocal sounds fine to us.
I'm sure it is a deep dive requiring a ton of patience.

We enjoyed the uplifting lyrics and the excellent BiaB session guys.
Good work on those samples.

Nice!

Nice and relaxed song, I enjoyed my listen.
About SynthV - well, it's like learning any other instrument, practice is the key.
I'm pretty sure my first attempts were worse than yours smile

Those flute pieces you assemble turned into a nice selection. The synth voices, although sounding good, sound too complicated for me. If I start losing my voice, I'll just pay someone on Fivver. Cool song. Original sound that had me glued to your song.
The end kind of clips out, which sounds off. Maybe fade out the room ambience at the end instead of the abruptness.

Ezekiel/Scott..thanks for checking in on this...I agree with you about preferring a live voice..I needed to experiment a little with SynthV and this seemed like a good project to try it on.

Tom,
Am I glad to see you sharing your music! Cool syncopated Bossa. Ace composition. Your signature inner lyrics rhythm shines. Enjoyed my listen and thank you for sharing.

Misha.

P.S. Couple of suggestions. More reverb on vocals, especially robo lady. Timing is slightly off between you and synth, but I think the trick is to get robo girl follow you, not the other way around. I would imagine it is challenging.
