I apologize for not being on-line and listening like I have in the past.
I purchased a mini computer to replace my Internet one. After initial tests on a different monitor I transferred as many files as I could from the old to the new computer. I have a KVM switch between the Internet and music computers. Also I wanted to disconnect three of my hard synths as I have soft synths for them. After a lot of work with that (MIDI cables, power cables, dusting, etc) I placed my Mini where I wanted it and all was OK. That was until the mini started producing so much static noise through my near field monitors I could hardly hear the music. Every time I moved a mouse, used the keyboard, or when the computer was using the HD and/or fan there was static noises. I ran a few tests using a different audio interface, changed cables, moved the computer, etc but nothing changed. The problem was with the mini. So I unplugged everything, packaged the mini up to ship back to Amazon, then set up my original Internet computer. Tomorrow I am shipping the mini out and buying a support group, i.e. that is a six pack of beer!

No apologies needed, Mario.

That was quite a nightmare! I can only try to imagine the time and frustration you went through. And I remember way back when they said computers were going to make everything so much easier! Well, so much for that!

Glad you got things back to normal, or at least the way they were. Looking forward to your next song. They are always a treat.

Take care. that six pack might do the trick!

Alan

I commiserate. Been through similar upgrades only to downgrade again. Such a pain.

NO NEED for apologies Mario - we missed ya and glad you're back,
you're 'instrumental' on this forum (pardon the pun), sorry you had a
tech nightmare! Hope the six pack eased the pain and all tech issues
sorted again?

Cheers, Carl

No need to apologize, Mario.
It's a common problem with computers and audio, and minis and laptops are hard to shield and often have internal interference because the components are so tightly packed.
A full-size metal computer case (without those “hey, look at my motherboard” plastic doors) and having a common electrical grounding for all devices involved is key.

Dang, Mario. Spent way too long scanning your post for a link to "I Apologize" before reading the post. Doh!

Have been using a dual CPU setup with a KVM for internet/DAW splitting for about nine years now. Am thinking about replacing the DAW with a mini PC when/if the Windows 11 hammer falls, since it's not upgradeable. Works GREAT on Windows 10 though...

Sorry for your troubles. You're missed but not negligent. According to the Top Posters list on this page your are still sitting at #2. smile

My dear Mario, I don't really like changes in computers because they're often a source of boredom and irritation.
Don't apologize, and we'll be very happy to see you on the forum when you've solved your problems.

Oh, man. Hopefully your support group helped, but we're here for ya, too, Mario. Not sure what I can do from 5+ hours away, but seriously, I want to work this out almost as much as you do. I see you have a new post, and I get excited to hear it. Dissapointing, but I am so looking forward to your solution and new musical celebration. My guess is you're already writing something about this experience.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanx everybody.
FYI - I do have common grounding as well as an UPS. I have been using a KVM for about 20 years now and I have had no problems with computers during that time, that is until now. When I get my refund I will be getting an all metal cased desktop much like what I have now.

Thats a tough one Mario. I chased hums and grounds trying to get two amps to place nice together. With lots of equipment plugged in it is very hard to isolate. I use a gaming computer to run my stuff. Been luck and everything has been pretty quiet. Only thing i can suggest is alway use good cables. They do make a difference..
