I'm still rummaging through past songs I've written and seeing if I can do anything with them Here is another one. Maybe Tomorrow was created a couple of years ago. Now with Synth V and the Asterian2 vocaloid, I can breathe some life into it and more-or-less reproduce it as I imagined it originally. Please feel free to comment in way on on any aspect of the song. I hope you enjoy listening. --Noel BIAB BandBase Style is _EMOTIVA.STY (Emotiva Quiet Songwriter Bossa) RT 711: Bass, Acoustic, Bossa Ev 085 RT 714: Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm Bossa Ev 085 RT 3236: Guitar, Nylon, Fingerpicking CelticAir Ev 085 RT 2411: Sax, Tenor, Soloist BossaSlowJack Ev 085 Drums: BossaLewis^01-a:Brushes HiHat , b:Brushes Swirl HiHat Vocals: Synthesizer V with Asterian2 ProductionDAW: Reaper Bass: Renaissance Bass plugin Vocals: Nectar 3 Synth V: Vocals were exported in two files: (a) main wav; (b) aspiration output. AB FAB Noel. Some of the hihat stuff is a little loud in spots. Sweet narrative, sweet arrangement too. Excellent work with the synth voice though I still prefer yours.

This is STUNNING. Wow. Superb lyrics. BEAUTIFUL melody. Superb rendition. What a song.
Loved that interlude.
One of your best, without a doubt. Had me literally sit up in my chair, from the first couple of bars in.
LOVE IT. We need more of your music on here, PLEASE. You have a rare gift ... the humanity you clearly have in your soul shines throughout your music. You are able to communicate so clearly and unequivocally what you feel, and it all shines through. It would be a crime not to hear even more of your songs! In the meantime ... bravo for this one, too. Hats off.

Hi Nigel, First thing that struck me was the photo. Is that your watercolor? Just curious. The next thing that struck me were the lyrics as they started sinking in. It's a beautiful song. I'm not sure I liked the voice. Although as far as Synth voices go, it sounded quite natural. It was just the timbre for some reason felt too thick for such an airy ballad. Let me put it this way: have you ever seen someone get ready to sing, and then when they do, their voice doesn't match their body? It just hit me like that for some reason. But still a lovely, touching piece.

Another brilliant production from you Noel.
I also understand a lot about the meaning behind such a beautiful song. So melodic, and with such wonderful emotion.
You have truly delivered an amazing tribute. Thank you for sharing this.

Noel,
Beautiful song...
Love the instrumentation and the excellent mix. Your singer has a hint of Roger Whittaker, which I think fits this song perfectly.
Loved it!

I like bossa nova and so I was expecting much. The composition and arrangement was just fine, but to my disappointment the vocals didn't meet my taste. I understand the usage of AI for vocals, specially if one is not a singer - as in my case - and is creating something new: own song, translation, different version etc. Still I found in this case the vocals a bit too artificial.

Noel..I echo all the positive comments.. I'll add that, as someone "shopping" for a SynthV male voice, I was quite impressed.. I'll have to take another look at Asterian! Thanks for reaching into the "yesterday bag" and breathing life into this very nice piece!

Thanks for having a listen. My vocals aren't so good these days (it's a combination of getting old and a left-over effect from covid in 2022). As a result, Synth V fills the gap nicely and still lets me make music. I agree with you regarding the hihats. I haven't tamed them too well, at all. Thanks for reminding me to revisit them I appreciate it. All the best, --Noel

But still a lovely, touching piece. Hello BYOBand. Thanks for dropping in and having a listen. The watercolour is from Canva (online). I simply typed in a scenario and then let it design something. The sound I was aiming for was a musical-theatre/light-opera sound that was often found in musicals from the 1950s and 1960s. I was happy with Asterian's vocals although I appreciate that they might not sit comfortably on all ears. I appreciate your feedback. Thank you All the best, --Noel

Hi, Noel. Excellent opening: Maybe tomorrow This ocean will be blue... again. It sets up the song and "attitude" immediately. The vocals in the mix feels a bit distant to me, but that might be a "me" issue, because I prefer my vocals a bit more up front. There are a few places were the /s/ is brought down a touch too much is "lisp" territory - but again, that's a preference thing. I like it! Nice song, it tells the story well. I'm glad you were able to dust it off.

I like bossa nova and so I was expecting much. The composition and arrangement was just fine, but to my disappointment the vocals didn't meet my taste. They sounded false. Then I found that you aren't your self singing, but it was some AI! What's the point of making productions with ripped off vocals, if it's not a question of making money! We can then just listen to records of the real singers. For me the fun is do as much as I can myself. Even tho I'm not a singer. Hi Brno. Thanks for having a listen. I appreciate it. Just to clarify for others who may read your comment, the vocals are not 'ripped off'. Synth V is a vocal synthesizer and not an online AI singer. The software requires quite a lot of human input to get it sounding its best. What I've learnt from being on these PG Music forums for many years is that "having fun with music" means different things to different people, and BIAB makes it possible for people from all walks of life to be creative and enjoy making music. Thanks again! --Noel

This is in the design of Asterian2 and was not something I chose. In a number of places throughout the vocal track, I've raised the 's' volume to a maximum, and a few times, I even changed 'z' endings to 's' endings. I'll revisit the aspiration output and see if I can bring a little more life into the sibilance! Thanks for your comments. As always, you give me good food for thought Thanks again, --Noel

I listened the other day but wasn't able at that time to respond.
A Bossa just hits the way nothing else does. Nice work.
I recently worked on a few bossa tunes for another project. It's a fun kind of music for sure.

This is in the design of Asterian2 and was not something I chose. Assuming you've got Asterian (the original) or even the demo version, you could choose to render the aspiration track from that and see what you get. You could also try using the aspiration of another voice, although I've found the /s/ is tricky to mix-and-match.

I've been through the track now and manually boosted the 's' sounds that were too soft. I think it's a bit better. I need to revisit it in a few hours when my ears are less sensitive to hearing 's'!

Great song, Noel! I liked the AI vocal, though I was going to (gently) encourage you to sing this yourself - until I read your explanation. I completely understand the aging thing. I run out of wind on the harmonica these days. Right now Soundcloud is playing your song "My Home" and it sounds terrific! The vocal is wonderful! Well, at least AI keeps you creating, and that's the important thing. Terrific job with Maybe Tomorrow, looking forward to more as James has encouraged.

Noel, an instant classic. Very poignant and quite nice synth vocals. Love the arrangement, and the instrumental break was a nice touch. I agree you should post more.

Sounds great to me, Noel, I always enjoy your lyrics and productions. Vocal sounded fine to me. I have no problem using any tool needed to get the job done and don't consider using synth vocals cheating any more than I would consider using a BIAB guitar track as cheating. The skill is in the composition and arrangement. Nice hearing a new song from you, it's been a while!

Beautiful song, kinda Sintra sings bossa with a slightly different voice. Nice choice of instruments, and very good lyrics. Enjoyed my listen. A lot! By the way, most people don't realize that using Synthesizer V (because the company behind it calls it "using AI") is completely different from "ripping off" vocals from an AI. Whenever this comes up with my songs, I advise the person to install the free demo and write a song with Synthesizer V. That's very educational

A quite sad song, but "Maybe tomorrow I will understand my role in our story" lights hope when facing something inexplicable, it is easy to relate to that. All elements work together to bring that message forward. The vocalist sounds convincing, even though it is not you singing, it still expresses your true voice very clearly to me and shows how much you have worked on that vocal instrument. Bossa nova style, the wistful piano and sax are very pleasant to my ears. The feeling your song evokes has really touched my heart.

Hi Noel,
A lovely, romantic, sad song, and very well performed! I think it was a lot of work to get the AI sing like you want him to. But you succeeded in that very well. But I agree with Ray, I prever your own vocals a bit more. The other thing is, the song yells for female vocals too on the chorusses, but maybe that's because I prefer some volume and distinction in the voices in the chorus. But however; your AI performed very well in this song. I liked it!

Dear Neal, I edited my comment. I changed my mind about being against of using AI for vocals, because after all it's the same then any other virtual instrument. If one is creating something, why couldn't all the tools of the trade be in use. I'm myself using BiaB Real Tracks for instruments I can't play and even virtual instrument for Uillean pipe for it's suitable sound. Because I'm a no good as a singer (and over 70 years old) I could use virtual instrument for that as well. But I got encouraging comments, like the miles behind can be heard in my vocals, which gives them respect. So I still try to sing myself. If I don't manage to get a visiting vocalist.

Cool one, Noel. The tempo is a cautious ray of hope as the song opens, and the way you build it brings it to the full brightness of belief. What a wonderful production and arrangement. That sax is perfect. Bossa=Love, and I love this one.

Noel,
Excellent songwriting . . . a song right out of yesterday’s great American Standards . . . nice light jazzy feel to it. And love that sax, which fits the song just perfect. The vocaloid is well executed. The Asterian vocaloid doesn't always do it for me--just something about his tone--but I think he works well enough here with this song.
BTW, I love your cover art. Nice pic!
Hope all is well in your world!

The lyric is tender and lovely as is the melody.
You hit the mark of a 50’s or 60’s musical with Asterian as the singer as Janice initially thought of some musicals she had watched with her sisters. (Gordon McRae in Oklahoma was one of those singers and movies.)
The piano and sax are highlights in the band.
Great arrangement and the mix sets up a nice open/airy soundstage on our monitors with plenty of subtle dynamics.
We enjoyed it and are glad you revisited this gem!

Hi TM. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment It seems that getting old if full of hidden surprises! Ahh well, it happens to us all sooner later. Discovering Synth V was a godsend for me. It perfectly fills the gap in my music-making abilitities and lets me keep on doing musical stuff. Thanks for listening to My Home, too. I appreciate it. All the best, --Noel

Noel, an instant classic. Very poignant and quite nice synth vocals. Love the arrangement, and the instrumental break was a nice touch. I agree you should post more. Hi Ron. Thanks for taking the time to drop in and have a listen. Much appreciated. When it comes to arranging music, it never ceases to amaze me just how capable BIAB is. It really was my lucky day when I stumbled across PG Music all those years ago. Wish you well! --Noel

Hey Dave. It's good to see you. I agree with you wholeheartedly. There are some incredibly amazing song-production tools around these days and they give home-based music-makers like me the chance to create something that sounds heaps better than anything I can put together by myself. Today's world is quite extraordinary in so many ways! Thanks again for dropping by! --Noel

Noel,
My time on the forums is very limited - didn't get a chance to hear this when you initially posted it. But I'm delighted I finally got to enjoy your wonderful song.
A ray of hope, a sliver of sunshine on an otherwise cloudy day is the analogy that came to mind for me. Guarded optimism also sneaks in. It's a beautiful song in all respects and is perfectly arranged for a stage performance. Bud mentioned Gordon McRae - I think he hit the nail squarely on the head. He has a full, rich, mid-baritone voice this song would be magic with a vocal similar to his. (I grew up in the 1940s and 1950s - yep, officially old). But it shines really bright as is. You always make such pleasant music to listen to. I look forward to every post you load onto the forum.
A lot of folks trash AI in its various applications re music. My thoughts are use whatever tools are available to you that meld with the music you are creating. Ans ... AI is here to stay and will become even more prevalent as time passes.
Lovely and soothing song. Loved my listen.
Alan

Beautiful song, kinda Sintra sings bossa with a slightly different voice. Nice choice of instruments, and very good lyrics. Enjoyed my listen. A lot! By the way, most people don't realize that using Synthesizer V (because the company behind it calls it "using AI") is completely different from "ripping off" vocals from an AI. Whenever this comes up with my songs, I advise the person to install the free demo and write a song with Synthesizer V. That's very educational Hi BDT, Thanks for having a listen. I love your idea about suggesting people try the free demo of Synth V. That's something I'll take on-board. Giving the software a try would certainly help people understand how much user input and user control are needed when one attempts to fully replicate a human sound. Thanks again! --Noel

Janne Hi Janne. It's good to see you again. Thanks for the visit I love your critique. Thank you so much for taking the time. I have never written a song for a Bass-baritone singer before and Asterian made it possible for me to spread my wings! I really enjoy working with Synth V. Just like BIAB, Synth V opens the doors of musical possibility in ways that make creating music lots of fun! All the best. --Noel

Reminiscent of the standards of yesteryear, which is a genre that I enjoy just as much as rock. Pleasant melody and poignant lyrics. Hi ES. Thanks for dropping in. It's always good to see you Like you, the Tin Pan Alley genre is one of my favourites. It's a genre in which I seem to write many of my songs. There were such a lot of outstanding melodists and lyricists in the 1920–1950s that they set the stage for what would eventually become pop music. And as you mention, many of the songs from this period of time have gone onto become 'timeless standards.' I appreciate that you had time to have a listen and comment. Thanks again! --Noel

Hi Noel,
A lovely, romantic, sad song, and very well performed! I think it was a lot of work to get the AI sing like you want him to. But you succeeded in that very well. But I agree with Ray, I prefer your own vocals a bit more. The other thing is, the song yells for female vocals too on the choruses, but maybe that's because I prefer some volume and distinction in the voices in the chorus. But however; your AI performed very well in this song. I liked it!
Hans Hi Hans. Thank you for passing through. It's good to see you Thank you for visiting Soundcloud and having a listen. I appreciate your comments, too. I thought about adding another layer of vocals. In the end, though, I decided to keep it simple and try to emulate a live performance of a small jazz ensemble. All the very best! --Noel

If you ever seek a multilingual songstress who LOVES performing bossa, i be here --
You can find my work with another biab-er. I'm hoping to continue in the vein of said regular composer, but to add to my offering on YT with public domain works. Please find me on YT by using my full name
Bonnie Nadine Newman
Thank you ever so much. Success to you, always.

Hi Brno. I totally agree with your comments. I'm just a hobby musician who has a basic music background, but I cannot do all the things that BIAB does for me. Without BIAB, I wouldn't be able to write and produce songs. Synth V, the vocal synthesizer, allows me to add male and female singers to my work. So with the combination of BIAB and Synth V, I get to have fun writing song and creating productions that I'd find too difficult to do by myself. Thanks for taking the time to revisit your thoughts. --Noel

Cool one, Noel. The tempo is a cautious ray of hope as the song opens, and the way you build it brings it to the full brightness of belief. What a wonderful production and arrangement. That sax is perfect. Bossa=Love, and I love this one. Hi Marty. As always, it's good to see you Thanks for having a listen and for you very encouraging comments. I really appreciate your visit. May lots of good things come your way! --Noel

Noel,
Excellent songwriting . . . a song right out of yesterday’s great American Standards . . . nice light jazzy feel to it. And love that sax, which fits the song just perfect. The vocaloid is well executed. The Asterian vocaloid doesn't always do it for me--just something about his tone--but I think he works well enough here with this song.
BTW, I love your cover art. Nice pic!
Hope all is well in your world!
Deej Hi Deej. Thanks for dropping in It's excellent to see you. I appreciate your listen and your comments. Asterian is an interesting vocaloid. It's one that seems to polarize people. I'll definitely keep that in mind next time I use him. The pic was courtesy of Canva. I just typed in a description of the kind of scene I had in my mind when I wrote the song and Canva did the rest. It was a pretty good fit, I think! Thanks again and all the best! --Noel

J&B Hi J&B It always brings a smile to my face to see that you've visited. Thank you for taking the time. And thanks heaps for mention Gordon McRae in "Oklahoma." That is exactly the kind of light operatic sound that I had in mind when I started working with Asterian. I've never worked with a voice in this range before, and it turned out to be quite a learning experience. Once again, thank you. --Noel

Alan Hi Alan. I'm really glad that you found time to drop in It always gives my day a lift to see that you've visited. I know that life has put you in a very demanding situation and that you a busy man right at the moment. I sincerely admire the steadfast resolve and the caring tenacity with which you approach day-to-day life. In other words, you inspire me no end with what you do and how you do it. And amongst it all, you still find time to create truly beautiful music. I really appreciate your thoughts on my song and on Asterian. You completely understand where I was coming from when I wrote and arranged Maybe Tomorrow. Like you, I'm also a believer in using whatever is available to make music that I like. Top of that list of tools is, without a doubt, Band In A Box. I started with the program in 2006 and even now, I still use it most days of the week. It never ceases amazing me just how many musical doors BIAB has unlocked for me. Thank you again. I sincerely wish you and Di the very best of everything. --Noel
