Hello, forum friends

I made and recorded this over 20 years ago, but I never posted it on this forum, so I'm posting it now.
It's a Cuban Latin music-style piece.
I only had a two-track stereo source, so I used SpectraLayers to break it down into each part and remixed them.
Any comments encouraged.
Always welcome.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi

Title: 白いドレスの女 (Translation: Woman in White Dress)

Vocal: Yoko, my friend
Guitar: Tatsuya Oomi, Yamaha teacher

Link:
https://soundcloud.com/animarorecords/woman-in-white-dress-2025

Style is L_GUARCH.STY Guaracha(Salsa)
Acoustic Piano played with Steinberg The Grand3
Acoustic Bass played with EastWest Goliath,
Drums & Percussions played with EastWest Goliath

Additional Bandoneon played with Best Service Accordions
Additional Tenor Sax played with EastWest Symphonic Orchestra
Additional Brass played with EastWest Symphonic Orchestra

Summary of lyrics:

The bustle of people, the smell of cigars, and a languid rhythm
Are spilling through the bar door

When I drop in on a sleepless night
The bar is just like any other

While I drink a daiquiri as recommended
A stylish man is standing next to me before I know it

His passionate gaze is staring upon me
As if penetrating into my dress

I can tell that he is looking for an opportunity
To talk to me from the seat next to me

Which should I do? Should I give him a chance
Or should I leave without showing any weakness?

It may have been a momentary lapse of judgment.
That I smiled just a little before I knew it

As if waiting for that moment,
You hold your glass at an angle and greet me with a smile

How quick you are, but when I look closely,
You are quite the type of man I like

The mysterious feeling must be because of the daiquiri
How tonight goes is up to you

Oooo, what a great feel. I can see the dance choreographed for this. A lot of skirt waving and happy feet pounding the floor with an excited rhythm. Great vocal, Yoko (I could never use that sentence in the 60s & 70s smile ) THe guitar is perfect in every way. I like what this one does to my moving shoulders. Good band. You were so accomplished back then that it's no surprise at the magic you consistently produce. Love it, Shigeki.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Shigeki Adachi.

Wow! This sounds fantastic. When the introduction first started playing, I was reminded of Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story". When the main song started, though, the sound became pure Shigeki Adachi and I completely forgot about Bernstein. Honestly, I wish I had your ability to orchestrate music. This is a fantastic arrangement. Your music is always delight to listen to. "Breathtaking" is a word that sprang into my mind a few times as I listened. It sounds like Yoko and Tatsuya Oomi are really enjoying themselves.

I totally enjoyed this musical journey.

Excellent Shigeki! Wonderful arrangement. I especially liked the economy and structure of the melody phrases as they passed over the chords. Really enjoyed this!!

Marty,

Thank you for your wonderful comments.
They are very encouraging.
When I can't think of new songs, I play around with my old songs.
This is a song I made when I really loved the Cuban sound.
I'd like to post a new song next time.

Best regards.

Shigeki, very smooth and entertainingly musical. Fabulous vocals by Yoko, and that lead guitar break is quite nice. Your backing track is really the glue, with the piano and bass pulling everything together nicely. The horn accents are cool, too. The sound quality is great, better than I've heard from many reconstructed stereo sources. Great job!

Salsa?
I'm in smile
I never thought this was a remix of an old recording, it's really well produced and sounds like new.
And of course you nailed this genre perfectly, and I never thought your language would work so well for Salsa (German Salsa doesn't work at all).
I really enjoyed it.

Wow!
You did an excellent job technically and sound wise revisiting this project.
Your friend is a GREAT vocalist.

The salsa vibe is wonderful as is the mix.
To retain all the subtleties and dynamics from the original is very impressive.

Enjoyed it!

Tom,

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
I am really glad you like this tune.
And I much appreciate your comment on my composition method.
My favorite way is to develop one motif with chord progressions.
I learned this method by studying the masters I respect, Jobim, Piazzolla, and Legrand.
I am always very encouraged by your kind words.

B.D.,

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
I am really glad you like this tune.
Japanese is a language that contains a lot of vowels, so perhaps it is a good match for the music sung in Spanish.
I am always very encouraged by your kind words.

Hi Shigeki,

Wow this is something really different from you, but it's instantly captivating.

I love the music, and it's extremely engaging and well produced but the thing that I really love are those lyrics.

I love the sound of the voice as a beautiful instrument in and of itself, which sounds like an instrument to my ears because I don't understand Japanese. So it's just a beautiful sound.

But when I read the lyrics I find them to be very Zen, and not at all like an English lyric that you would expect in these circumstances.

It's fascinating to me that there's not really an action-oriented drama going on here, but there is a poetic, or internal, feeling based drama that's going on.

It's a completely different art form I think and so far as lyrics are concerned and I really like it.

Fascinating!!

By the way, have you ever put together an entire album of just really soft, gently orchestrated vocal ballads? If you have I would love to know where to find those on the internet, or even purchase an album or two of them if they exist.

Those Japanese female vocals are profoundly soothing. I could sit on the couch and listen to them all day.

As usual, it's great production with a perfect Cuban vibe, and the Yoko vocals are excellent. I really like the lyrics translation as it's a really interesting little story. I've never had a lady say to me, "How tonight goes is up to you"! laugh

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

This song has a very universal feel from Latin to French and Japanese. Excellent rhythm supports the lovely singer perfectly. The chord progression works like magic.
The accordion gives little bit melancholy and the horns sound great. And that skillful guitar solo is the icing on this delicious cake.
I can imagine an enticing scene in a movie based on the lyrics, so vivid and emotional.
Great work to bring this work into the present day.
I don't know what salsa professionals would say, but this sounds like the finest example in this genre.
