TᕼE ᗯᗩᖇ ᗯITᕼIᑎ

Hi forum friends

As you all know, there are a million ways to birth a melody, but my personal, highly scientific method involves strumming simple chords, singing pure, unadulterated gibberish, and then patiently (read: desperately) waiting for my notoriously unreliable muse to eventually show up and connect the dots. Mostly, she's off demanding royalties from a cloud somewhere, leaving me in the desolate, echoey wasteland known as 'Writer's Block.' (ï½¥â ï½¥)

This song is a result of that process. I classify it as 'unplugged' however, it's raw, it's got warts, and frankly, I'm not entirely sure it's house-trained yet so perhaps 'unhinged' is more accurate. ◔◡◔

Anyway, please do give it a listen, constructive feedback is always welcome.
– and maybe send a search party for my muse, I think she might be lost again already. (ˆ◡ˆ)

Regards
Izzy.

Nicely done, Izzy! I don't think it's rough at all, just bare, which works great with the narrative. Nice use of BiaB instruments, and I like the slow build arrangement you've got here. That acoustic solo is a bit "outside" but I think it works fine. Cool ending, too. Super job!

Hi Izzy!
I was initially struck by the likeness of your vocal in the first couple of verses to Peter Garrett of Midnight Oil - that’s a good thing. The instrumentation and melody of the verses provides the bleakness to demonstrate the futility of war. When the chorus comes in, the more typical pop chords and melody (which I loved) provide some hope of change. We all need hope.
It’s good to hear another one of yours - to add to the variety of your catalogue.

I like your song, yes, it's raw, but that fits the theme perfectly.
The solo is not for me, in my opinion, it's more distracting than it is adding to this really beautiful song.
Enjoyed my listen nonetheless [Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

Hi, Izzy.

Whatever it takes to get a song done - you can't just wait for the muse to show up.

I'd be hard pressed to say exactly what you're singing about, but it works! smile

I like the "raw" sound - it definitely didn't sound like it was recorded to a click track.

Hi Izz,

This certainly grabbed my attention right away. The verses had an eerie quality that was very effective. The lyrics were good. Then the chorus came, which in and of itself, I quite liked. But at first, there was a disconnect between verse and chorus that I couldn't quite accept. I thought of a similar song, Bungalow Bill by the Beatles, that had that verse chorus disconnect. I always found that song a bit strange for the same reason. So perhaps you were in good company. However, by the third listen, it all came together for me. So that's my circuitous route to full appreciation of your latest here. I think it's a bold piece of music, and my hat is off to you for persevering through it. The naked outro was very effective, too. Great job!

That's exactly how I write, too, Izzy. Sometimes also starting with BiaB, and once a style and chords are entered, your scientific method takes over. Well, your muse came up with another gem --warts and all. I love hearing you unplugged. Good vocal and the perfect group of instruments to carry the messge within the lyrics. Message? Hey, I like the harmony at the end. Well written song with a good mix and interesting musicians.

I also saw your muse at the Grammys wearing gold earings with your initials on them.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Your written intro shows that you know that it can be improved, but while I think the chorus is great on all levels it's actually the only verse about the war within, while the rest of it is about the without. … Also, frack the news, we're all special! Even the robotic news people - only they don't know it! laugh

Thankyou for all your lovely comments which I read, absorbed and appreciate.

Now, for a tiny, post-performance confession, which might explain why some lines felt a bit... abstract/ambiguous

Every single line was actually a wink оr a nod, a subtle nudge  about Artificial Intelligence and its fascinating, sometimes baffling, impact оn creativity. I held back from saying this initially because, you know, "live and let live!" – and my primary goal was for the song tо stand оr fall оn its own melodic feet. But іt seems I was perhaps a touch too subtle or simply not brave enough to have the courage of my convictions to reveal it's true story for fear of stepping on toes.

And those 'charming imperfections' (let's call them 'intentional human-ness') іn the tuning and timing? They weren't just my usual performance quirks! They were a deliberate, slightly mischievous protest against the often-pristine, sometimes too perfect, output оf AI productions. A little hymn tо the gloriously wobbly, beautifully un-quantized heart оf human performance.

That line, "The news reminds us we're not special anymore" really speaks tо this feeling I was trying tо capture.

AI is an absolute marvel, and I quite honestly don't know what I'd do without my digital co-pilot these days. It infiltrates almost every aspect of my personal and professional life, and for that, I am eternally grateful! For instance, tools like Synth V? A genuine godsend– a truly wonderful innovation for those who consider themselves 'vocally challenged',

Now, where my enthusiastic nod turns into a gently raised eyebrow is a rather specific scenario. When one feeds a few creative crumbs – be it audio snippets or a well-crafted prompt – into the algorithmic engine of Suno, and then proceeds to claim the entire resulting masterpiece as their unique, unaided brainchild... well, it feels a touch like dropping a coin into a jukebox and, once the music starts playing, humbly accepting all the applause for having personally composed, performed, and produced every last note of that chart-topping hit. A brilliant selection, perhaps, but perhaps not entirely one's own creation, if you catch my drift!"

They say machine learning AI mines every song ever written and delivers the best compilation іn seconds. But haven't many оf us 'seasoned' songsmiths spent decades doing our own internal data mining, absorbing the classics and the obscure, letting іt simmer іn our own wonderfully messy human brains? We might take a little longer tо 'process' our inspirations, but the resulting stew often has a unique, irreplaceable flavour. As my song mused, "The war within was meant tо be / Lost somewhere but I began tо see / The script іs old, the actors change / But we’re still stuck оn the same old stage." Where dо we draw our creative lines іn this new landscape?

Anyway, just some musings from a human who still believes іn the magic оf a slightly off-key note and a truly unexpected lyric. Not trying tо open a can оf worms, just perhaps tо gently swirl the conversation!

P.S. On a lighter note, іf any оf you find my absent muse could you please put her оn the first available QANTAS flight? She owes me a chorus.

Best regards and happy, human-powered (or thoughtfully AI-assisted!) songwriting tо you all,

Izzy. (I've been Bizzy now I have some time to listen and comment on your wonderfull creations)

Three words, tre..mend..ous.

Hi Izzy,
Wow, that moment when the song opened up into the chorus! It made me want to cry. I really enjoyed that for itself and in contrast to the raw, somewhat choppy verses. You've got something here. Powerful lyrics made all the more touching for the unplugged aspect, but I can also hear a plugged in version in my head.

A very different, but somewhow very interesting song. Your voice starts singinging, when you sing with power. Reminds me of some of my favourites: Velvet Underground, Jonathan Richman etc., but somehow your unique. Anyeays your songs arised emotions, and that's important.

Izzy, this is really good as is.
Personally I wouldn't change a thing.
I like the rawness of this one.
"Another scandal another war
The news reminds us we're not special anymore" What a fantastic lyric, sad but so true.
It may be raw but it is a damn good song.

We’re late to the party and thus read your spoiler post before listening. smile

We catch the drift and the issue we have is that we feel the above is thoughtful and well written - here comes the “but†- it’s for us a heckuva understatement! smile After streaming sucked the life out of independent artists money-wise this technology can ultimately destroy even streaming payments sans it being banned. OK that’s our drift. smile

So setting aside your remarkably cool little “innovations†throughout the tune it is an outstanding write.

Hi Izzy,
Okay. I see the song as a rough demo for now.
There's a lot of potential in your song.
The chorus is really good, and your voice fits in nicely.

Lee, thank you so much for this absolutely… tre..mend..ous… comment! ðŸ˜

I appreciate you trying to stick to three words, and then just throwing caution to the wind with such fantastic detail.🤪

As for the 'f&$#ig terrific' part – I can absolutely feel the conviction behind those symbols, and it's quite possibly the highest compliment I've ever received without a single actual f-bomb being dropped. My delicate ears (and ego) are both thrilled! ꌃ꒒ꀎꌗꃅꀤꈤê…

Thrilled that the uniqueness of the singing, arrangement, and lyrics all came through. You've truly made my day. ☘

Hi Beth,

Wow, thank you for such an amazing and detailed comment! 💗 🌼

Okay, first thing's first: Are you alright? Should I send over an emergency-tissue-delivery-by-drone service? My apologies – I promise I wasn't trying to induce a tear-jerking experience, just... you know, trying to make some music! Though, if it made you feel something that deeply, then maybe I'll take it as a compliment... albeit with a slight pang of guilt for your tear ducts. 😇 ☂

Seriously though, that's incredibly touching to hear about the chorus opening up – that's exactly the kind of emotional lift I was hoping for, so thank you for noticing that contrast with the verses. And the idea of a plugged-in version in your head? Ooh, now I'm wondering if that one would require a full-blown flood warning! 🌧

Thanks again for listening so deeply and for such wonderful feedback, Beth. You've definitely given me a boost (and maybe a new understanding of my 'emotional impact' capabilities!).

Cheers,

Izzy

PS Thanks a ton for all your ongoing support of my music - much appreciated!! ðŸ‘

Oh, thank you so much, Brno! "Very different but somehow very interesting" is a fantastic compliment to start with.

I especially love your observation about my voice "singinging" when I sing with power – it's like it finally decides to really belt it out then! Maybe it's a bit shy until it gets loud.

And to be mentioned in the same breath as Velvet Underground and Jonathan Richman... that's incredibly high praise, thank you. To be "somehow unique" in that company is exactly what I aspire to.

Ultimately, knowing that my songs "arised emotions" is the greatest compliment of all. That's truly what it's all about.

Thanks again for listening so thoughtfully and for sharing your wonderful insights. It made my day!

My best to you

Janice & Bud,

Thank you for those incredibly kind words about my initial post – you've well and truly caught my "drift," and then some! My "gently raised eyebrow" certainly seems to have met your "heckuva understatement" with a rather emphatic nod of agreement regarding the potential devastation this technology could wreak on independent artists. You've articulated the financial stakes with commendable clarity, and the specter of streaming payments being further eroded is indeed a chilling thought for any creator. My initial musings were perhaps more about the nuances of authorship, but you've rightly amplified the far more immediate and existential threat to livelihoods.

But let's pivot back to the music! It's truly gratifying to hear you enjoyed the tune, and I particularly appreciate you picking out those "remarkably cool little 'innovations'" – it means a lot when the details are noticed! And that particular sentiment, yearning for the days of Walter Cronkite's measured gravitas over today's relentless algorithmic firehose, yessiree!

Thanks so much for taking the time to listen, to engage with the post, and for the lovely shout-out to the session guys and the mix. It was indeed a heckuva project, and (as always) your feedback is truly invaluable.

Cheers,
Izzy

Hi Andi!

Well, look who finally decided to grace us with his presence! I was starting to put together a musical search party! 😉

Seriously though, it's fantastic to hear from you again, and an even bigger thanks for taking the time to listen and weigh in. You're absolutely spot-on with the 'rough demo' assessment – sometimes my entire creative process feels like a rough demo! But I'm genuinely thrilled to hear you see potential; that's gold.

And a huge relief that the chorus works for you, and that my voice 'fits nicely'! (It's always a gamble whether it'll sound more like a singer or a wounded wildebeest on any given day, so "nicely" is definitely a win!)

Don't be a stranger again – it's great to have your ears back in the forum.

Cheers, Izzy

Raw, but delicious. Bit of Bon Jovi and Americana, reminded me also of Del Amitri. Your muse is obviously there behind the curtain, just she doesn't want to take the lead smile

The band sounds great, especially the slightly out of tune guitar. Your voice is really captivating and when the chorus kick in, the song really soars into the sky of liberation and creativity. The lyrics are full of tasty bites, I can really feel "barren sea" and "a tired old machine" and the sad truth of "Each hopeful promise, it starts to wear thin/Another ending, before we begin".

Very original tune. Even if it feels impossible these days, keep on trying to be special, fight the AI by always being one step ahead smile

Hi Izzy,

I would call this "something completely different"from what I know of your songs.
But different does not mean something negative. It's a very creative song in many ways.
The acoustic guitar sounds a bit off tune, the voice is searching for the best tune and the lyrics are great.
And as the song continues, I get used to it and even enjoy it. The song is actually a powerful indictment of everything we're currently experiencing. That's what I find so powerful about it. Raw or not...

Hi Izzy,

The raw truth can hit us square in the face sometimes, but often that wakeup call is needed. There's a lot of insight in your lyric, and your vocal delivery perfectly fits it.

You took on a tough subject and did a great job with it.

At least your muse came back for a visit. My muser went on vacation last year, and it appears she bought a one-way ticket.

Glad I got a chance to hear this. It was well worth my time to listen.

Best you,

Alan

Musically, your song comes to a satisfying culmination in the chorus, which is a most excellent chorus. I like the raw sound. It brings us back before everything was digital and quantified.

Izzy,
That was an interesting journey! Very creative piece of musical poetry. I like how the tune progresses, but a part of me wanted to hear some sort of percussion. Perhaps single hits of taiko drum to accent rhythm. Clear mix and listens well.
Thank you for sharing.
Misha.
