The new edition of Band-in-a-Box for Windows is typically released in December. What goodies do you think PG Music will present in 2026? Here are my guesses.

Band-in-a-Box for Android app. The app will be available through the Google PlayStore and provide the same features as the current BiaB for iOS app.

The Band-in-a-Box program will work on Arm, Intel and Amd based computers.

There will be 200 new RealTracks.

There will be new Extra and Pro style PAKs.

The minimal (some call it New) GUI interface will receive an overhaul while the other interface will remain the same.

This was my prediction for last year, and I'm sticking with it...not so far fetched now, is it???

To generate a song, one has to simply ask for it in plain English (or the language of your choice). BiaB will then generate lyrics, vocals, chord structure, tempo, arrangement and instrument choices, all neatly provided to you as a completed song in seconds. Don't like what you hear? I've probably said too much. It's possible some of this stuff won't make the December launch. Or...???

I hope this isn't too far off topic....

I have the 2022 Audiophile version installed on a home-built pc running Windows 10.

I use BIAB to generate Real Tracks for songs I've already written with pen and paper and guitar and then import those RT's to Studio One Pro 4.

At this point, I have little interest in the AI capabilities of BIAB, and I don't mess with midi.

So, other than additional Real Tracks what do the 2025 and possible 2026 versions really offer to a user like me?

That will be true if those 2 or 3 are fully implemented, have no bugs, and doesn't break another part of BiaB. I would be happy with no new features but improved or made totally functional everything they have now.

Partial track regeneration, the new "Track View" window, the MultiPicker window combines many of the picker windows into one are a few of the changes I can think of.

This is my workflow as well. To tell you the truth, I haven't flipped over a new feature since RealTracks were introduced. So I buy the upgrade every year for the new RealTracks. I usually start with RealStyles, so there are quite a few new ones of those as well. And there will be XtraStyles included and others for sale, which I'll buy, too.

I've got a feeling there's some BIG AI feature coming up. I mean, there has to be, RIGHT? So...we'll see very soon....

Hoping for a bit more AI as well, and maybe some Accordion jigs reels or hornpipe Realtracks.

Based on prior years, we'll know what's new when 2026 is released. So it's kind of like "What's under the tree?" on Christmas morning, if that's a relatable reference...

Well I think it's time for a re-think. When you consider the amount of real tracks and midi tracks and the effort required to get to the point where you are fully convinced you have arrived at what you want, then it's time to change the plot. More tracks? Oh God, NOOOO.
I can get a fantastic track on Suno with a well thought out prompt. I can't get anywhere near a good song with BB.
I'll offer more thought in January but will not be spending money this year on an outdated piece of software.

Okay Malevans, what kind of re-think do you suggest? What changes do you want that will make you believe the software is not outdated?

I'm surprised at many of these responses as I was hoping people would enjoy guessing what will be new in the 2026 release, to see how close their thinking matches the reality once 2026 is released. That this would be a fun exercise. Sigh, such is not the case.

One big difference between the Windows and Macintosh releases is no one knows what will be in the Windows release until it happens while the Macintosh folks pretty well understand their release will match the Windows release as much as possible. So not too much fun to be had from guessing what will be in the Mac release. With Mac the fun is guessing WHEN the release will happen.

I don't recall when the bar-by-bar regeneration was introduced but if your version doesn't have it then this feature alone is worth the upgrade for you! I've been buying every upgrade for the past 13 years and I can honestly say, for me, there has only been one essential, "cannot live without" update and that is bar-by-bar regeneration! This should have been added shortly after RealTracks were invented. But we finally got it!

And, if you haven't upgraded yet, WAIT! Wait a couple more weeks and for the same or lower price you will get the 2026 version instead of the 2025 version!

I'd guess that many forum users (even old-timers) have grown weary of the annual cycle of "50 New Features" (often with very few that are meaningful enough to deserve to be in such a list) followed by several months of bug fixes (that many feel should have been fixed before release). Personally, I will likely buy the upgrade for the new RealTracks. And pray nothing that I use regularly gets broken in the new release.

It isn't for me to rethink. I tried last year and was ignored. It is for BB to come up with something new. I suggested introducing AI last year to help with composing compositions. I for one am tired of sifting through thousands of tracks and getting nowhere. smile

Malevans, I looked over your "What's going to be new in 2025". You summarized your posts in this comment:
Quote
What will impress me is more attention to Midi and an improved Melody maker with a lot more choice. More attention to emotive tracks and some new Soloists that are not Jazz influenced for once. Counterpoint in Strings sections with more emotive expression, not just bland.
Several people agreed with your thoughts last year and likely still do. I agree these are areas where BiaB has room for growth and updates.

I agree with most everything Mal says, though now is a little late to wish for anything, isn't it?

Here's a nifty bit of trivia: Mal was one of the first to place 64-bit BiaB on the Wishlist in 2013. That ain't nuthin'! THANK YOU, Mal!

If I could wish for anything, it's that PGMusic is not just listening to us cranky retirees (I wear it proudly) and is focused on the next generation(s) of BiaB users. The age demographic on the User Showcase forum makes me feel very comfortable, but no doubt sends cold shivers down the spines of the PGMusic strategists...

Yes and no.

It's definitely much too late for this year, but I suspect it's about the right time to suggest things for next year or the year after. My guess is that the main plans for BiaB 2027 are being firmed up either now or very soon.

Absolutely! I came from a world where we were always developing plans across multiple overlapping years, so I get it.

But since the topic here is "What's New for 2026", the window for changes is almost certainly closed.

FWIW, Mal's last Wishlist post was 2023. Not judging. I've never posted in the Wishlist.

I just think that every software house needs to understand very well what's going on, what are the actual and future trends. Going to music software, it's quite obvious that AI is actually at the centre of every music production. And BIAB is, and has always been, a music production software, so in its case this is even more important. Of course I have no idea what's going on in BIAB 2026, and it's too late anyway to make suggestions, BUT if PGMusic wants really to keep on mantaining its position of leader in music production software FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS OF MUSICIANS, well, they need a better and higher integration with AI techniques. If not, sadly it will became in very few years an obsolete piece of software for retired people only. All this, by my point of view of a 70yo amateur musician, BIAB customer since the DOS years. Please excuse my bad English.

I don't recall if PG Music has done Black Friday Deals, but they often do great deals when a new product is launched.
Only a guess, but if history repeats itself, a new release could be available before Xmas.

I played around with Suno, and Moises and yes, they have a modern sound and that is great is you want to sound like every other song created at this time. Sometimes that is what one wants BiaB sound unique, and i really love the ability to create MY take on some song i like to play. Take an older song and refresh it. Create a new song that has a different sound than the status quo on the boring radio today.

It would be cool to see more AI added to BiaB as the next couple years go by and add a little bit of the Suno feel added to The RT feel. Best of both worlds.

I know that is just my take

Why is that? What is different about Suno? I don't know anything about it, and would prefer some information from a user before going down a rabbit hole.

IMHO I would rather PGM add AI that would better search styles, RTs, RDs, and possibly suggest adding other RTs to a song via the utility tracks prior to adding Suno.

Like you that is just my take and I meant no offense to your suggestion.

Well I have delved into just about every AI site this past year. Suno is ok but has a long way to go with its algorithms. It's the prompts that makes what you are looking for and if you instruct one of the AI bots like ChatGPT you can use a ready made prompt to use on SUNO that gives some very convincing new music. I won't lie though, it's frustrating and requires you to delve deep to get something that WOWS you.

BB simply cannot continue, year in, year out throwing Real Tracks at us. It simply mounts up to the point where you don't know where to look next. It's taken forever to get a manual that explains things in ABC. The midi should be given far more attention, BTW ( SUNO offers midi with its song creation). At least you have far more ways, in a DAW of your own choice, to use VST3 instruments to create. I find the RealTracks frustrating and limited in what can be achieved, particularly Strings, no counterpoint, no expression, emotionless. Music has to arouse in all sorts of ways and ready made tracks, that cannot really take an instruction, doesn't really do it. They are dead before you begin. Press play on any Real Track and your response is, mmm, or, it's ok, but. Rarely ever WOW.

Oh dear, I think it's another 200 plus Real Tracks again. I can't bring myself to do it again. I was tempted with the little AI gesture to grab midi from wav but it's not really new is it? Have fun everyone. I'm definately not sold this time.

Mal,

I'm sorry you feel that way. While there are a bunch of new RealTracks this year there are also RealDrum stems, MIDISuperTracks, MIDI styles.
And there are Playable RealTracks that let you work with RealTracks like you work with MIDI.

There are admittedly those that want more content. I understand you don't and that's fine.
There are also those that don't care about how the program looks but many do and that seems to be what PG Music concentrated on this release.
