It looks to have had some sensational new features added. Definitely a very professional product. Thanks for the tip, Dan.

Being able to selection particular lines from chords looks really cool. I believe there's also an option to "explode" chords into parts in the staffs below.

Now if there were only a Big Band library for MuseScore with a nice brass section.

If you really are looking for this, then I assume you have used either:

Muse Brass: A professional collection of solo and ensemble brass (trumpets, trombones, horns) that adds depth and realism. It's free for use within MuseScore.
or
Vienna Brass: A paid MuseSounds library, but may have a free demo available. It is recorded by top musicians and offers a dynamic sound for solos, fanfares, and ensembles.

Is there a problem with these??

Dan, I play in brass choirs now and then. I did not know about these. Thanks!

Several subtle things are improved. Yes, the chords handling is great. Polychords surprised me. I liked being able to separate parts of chord notes to transfer to another instrument. The 3x repeat is so simple but so lacking in other notation program playback.

This flew under my radar too.
It's neat to watch this notation program continue to grow
Even though Musescore can handle tablature, I'm still waiting for a program to reliably take a bass stem and produce a quality tab from it.
Thanks for sharing.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Both libraries have an orchestral sound, not jazz.

I'm trying to move to MuseScore for my non-BiaB tracks, as I seem to work better with notation than piano roll. This is especially true for working with block chords and ensemble writing of jazzy chords.

But MuseScore doesn't really play well with 3rd party libraries, and although developers are aware there's demand for it, some sort of articulation map doesn't seem to be in the works.

I went looking through the MuseScore supported libraries, and there are a few that I'll probably get the MuseScore version of, like Audio Imperia Solo. I've got the Kontakt version, but being able to access the articulations via notation is likely worth the cost.

But I'm not seeing anything that works in the jazz idiom. But I'll survive. wink

David, I can’t recommend it now because it stopped development, but Notion 6 by Presonus allows me to specify a percentage of swing articulation in my score. It also gives me audio tracks so I make WAV files of BIAB instruments that serve as the jazz rhythm section for my big band charts. It is best as a composer’s tool, not for producing polished printouts for publication, but my musicians can read it just fine.

The company is doing extensive development of a very good Notion Mobile application that is cross-platform. We hope they will add back a few key features from Notion Desktop, and we will have a real winner.

I used to have Notion, and probably still have a valid license. I'd originally gotten it because they supported a bunch of 3rd party libraries, but that went by the wayside for their own library. But I found the sound of their library instruments disappointing.

That said, I should probably play with the "swing" feature in MuseScore as well. But I wish they had a better core sound.

I literally just printed sheet music I'd done in Notion with the Notion Mobile app. laugh

I really liked using Notion, but given how they've been dragging their feet for years with new features, and how expensive their libraries were, I doubt I'll go back to using them frown

Thanks!
