All I Want From You Is You on Soundcloud
All I Want From You Is You on YouTube

A song about neglecting all of the stuff in life in favor of what's actually important. It's not really a Christmas song, but it has all the sentiment. So Merry Christmas to everyone on this wonderful forum.

I'm grateful that DC Ron lists the RTs by number. It really helped when searching for the right acoustic for the Bridge. Still wasn't quite right, so Dave came through with the right track.

Style is _ORDEAL.STY (Ordeal Sw16 Shakr Americana Folk)

Dave Bell (Blue Attitude) played guitar. I played bass and sang.

All I Want From You Is You

Everytime we step off stage we hear the crowd is screaming more.
They say we haven't played their favorite song.
So what's the point of giving more? They won't be satisfied.
Giving all we got cannot go on. You and I are different.
Our love will see us through. All I want from you is you.

Everytime we take a break from the tedium of date-to-date
we find we cannot leave the grind behind.
Producers always scream for more. They're never satisfied.
Seeing they can't see our needs, they're blind.
You and I are different.
You give the glow of few. All I want from you is you.

I was alone, feeling like my life was turning into stone.
Then you came along, and now nothing that we do will turn out wrong.

Everyday there's more and more of the money grabbers looking for
a chance to steal away with something new.
The friendly smiles of admen's styles will mask their true intent.
They take and take. That's how their coffers grew.
You and I are different in what we both accrue,
All I want from your is you.

Late good friend conga player used to use the Johnny Weissmuller saying “What drums say?” Well this drum ends with “And that's the honest truth.” You hear it, right?

Marty and Dave,

I love the acoustic guitar driven vibe of this one! Marty the dynamic range of the vocal melody is very nice, and the bass work is impeccable! Dave's guitar work is truly the icing on the cake! Nice job guys!

Love the story in the lyrics, a couple of working musicians dealing with the foibles of that profession. The bridge is brilliant! Great work here, Mr. Straub! Merry Xmas, sir, looking forward to another great year with you here on the forum!

Marty and Dave, cool song and it sounds GREAT! LOVE the vocals. Wish I could yodel like that. Dave's guitar is always a thrill. Love the bass though I'd like to hear it MORE. That's a super ending, too. And that's the truth!

Hi Marty!
Another good one from you and your collaboration with Dave Bell.
It’s an interesting angle of the lyrics. I always appreciate your chord listing at the end of your summary so that I can see what is happening ‘under the hood’. I’ve started doing that myself with my posts.
Thank you for your encouraging year - you do that so well and are part of the ‘glue’ of this forum. Well done.
Best wishes for the season.

Another strong poignant write from you Marty. Too true, that we all take things and loved ones for granted, and then it can be too late. Your vocal was on form, the chosen style worked really well and Dave didn't let you down on the lead guitar, really liked his interpretation.

Seeing 2025 out with a good'un Marty. Looking forward to hearing you in 2026. Kind regards

Another excellent song, Marty. Love the vocals, bass, lead guitar and the repeated title line.

Hey Marty,

I just took a little stroll through your latest sonic masterpiece, and dang — did I need that.

"All I Want From You Is You" hits like a warm hug from someone who actually means it — no strings attached, no hidden clauses, just pure emotional ROI. And speaking as someone who once tried to quantify love using a spreadsheet (it didn’t work), this song is the antidote to all that soulless number-crunching.

The melody? Catchier than a fisherman’s coat.
Your vocals? Tender, truthful, and delivered with the quiet confidence of someone who’s seen the circus and still chooses the quiet bench under the tree.
The bass? awesome. I swear I felt my desktop nod in approval.
And Dave Bell — that man doesn’t play guitar, he whispers secrets to it, and it obediently complies with breathtaking licks and lush textures.

Lyrically, you’ve bottled the rarest of elixirs: simplicity with depth. It’s not a Christmas song, sure — but it’s got more holiday heart than a reindeer choir singing carols in a snowglobe. You took the noise of the world — the screaming crowds, the greedy admen, the endless grind — and said, “Nah. I’ll take us instead.” And honestly? Preach.

Also, mad respect for the Johnny Weissmuller drum sign-off. “And that’s the honest truth” indeed. I heard it. I felt it.
Bottom line: This isn’t just “good everything.” It’s great everything — wrapped in humility, strummed with soul, and served with zero ego. Which, come to think of it, is exactly the point.

Merry Christmas, indeed. Keep your gems coming in 2026 to sooth my soul and sanity!

Hi Marty and Dave, of course,

I think you're the master at coming up with creative song titles!

All your songs have that unique twist that only you can come up with.
And I haven't even mentioned the song itself!
I listened to this song on YouTube a while ago, and now I'm listening to it again. Thank goodness, because it's just a great song that you and Dave can really make.
Well, that's why I consult you so often when writing my songs ;-)

Happy 2026 to you and everyone at your place!

What a great sentiment Marty and the bridge lyric really nails it!

We enjoyed the lyric and were reminded of many interviews with musicians.
All who lamented those same concerns.

You and Dave are in fine form and, as always, work your magic together!

Fine mix and supporting vid ... all is so cohesive.

Happy New Year!

The intro says Marty & Dave 100%.
All I want from a Marty song is Marty with David.
The turn in the road of the melody when the congas come is perfect.

Wow, Izzy. Once again you write the best liner notes. If I read this on an album jacket, you'd be sure I'd buy it. Ah, you're a true scientist, quantifying love with a spreadsheet. A labor of love with likely very little fruit. Man, I can quote you all day. Thanks so much, man.

The perfect opening for any song is a Dave Bell guitar lead. Underneath the positive lyrics is a subtle darkness in the music. I like the melody. Cool bridge that changes things yet still fits.

My most played song on both SoundCloud and Spotify in 2025 was... (drum roll) Marty Straub - Delicate
So I'm expecting the same guy to be on the top also in 2026 laugh Because he is the top guy. This latest song just proves it again. "You give the glow of few" - so true. Instantly recognizable blues style with beautifully flowing melody, clever title and touching lyrics, Dave's legendary guitar playing and Marty's even more legendary bassline.
The bridge is true highlight where the percussions create a nicely decorated bed with roses for the confession of love and your vocals just soar into the bliss where neither producer nor admen can disturb the state of eternal happiness.
Nice ending also, making me want to listen to it once more.

All we want from you is...YOU...some writers are prolific but not good and some are good but not prolific in their writing skills but you my friend are both...this is just another example of a well produced super performed song. I love hearing your stuff and I don't know if you and Dave are joined at the hip but you sure are joined at the brain...what a team!

Thanks, Scott. A fine drummer once told me, "You can't hold no groove if ya ain't got no pocket." Without the double negatives that would be, "You can hold a groove if ya got a pocket." Thanks for the positive feedback, Scott.

cool tune. I like the minor feel and the occasional major third being dropped in.

Thanks, Scott. That darkness is like the singer-and-his-sung-to are crouching below the normal what's-in-it-for-me attitude to understand the meaning --of life, of love.

Nice ending also, making me want to listen to it once more.

Janne
Thanks so much, Janne. You are a real treat, sir. So glad you notice the percussion too. I spend waaay more time on that than I do on bass. You're the best, man. And that's the honest truth.

Thanks, Dan. Nothing better than respect from someone I admire.

Good message. Focus on the important things in life.
Thanks, Herb. I like that you notice subtleties better than everyone I know. Yep, the message you heard is one that should be on a constant Loop in my mind.

Enjoy whatever happens!

This one didn't grab me right away, and, for a while, my mouse was hovering over the back arrow.
However, the longer I resisted, the more this track grew on me. I liked it even better when I switched to the video version.
The lyrics presented an interesting theme, sung with feeling, while faultless lead guitar riffs embellished and enhanced the overall production.
The backing band seemed to know exactly what was required of them too wink
