Hi!

the most time consuming thing for me in regard to BiaB is renaming songs. Therefore, I'd like to suggest a feature for renaming all files of a specific folder in a format that allows the mixture of freetext and textmodules.

The textmodules should be (at least from my personal perspective, other users might need aditional ones):
  • Current Filename
  • Songname
  • Stylename long (of the song as a whole, not reflecting potential style-changes in bar x, for sure)
  • Stylename short (of the song as a whole, not reflecting potential style-changes in bar x, for sure)
  • Meter (of the general style, not reflecting potential style-changes in bar x, for sure) - with a hyphen instead of a slash, since windows doesn't accept slashes in file names
  • Feel (of the general style, not reflecting potential style-changes in bar x, for sure)
  • Tempo (of the song as a whole, not reflecting potential tempo-changes in bar x, for sure)
  • Key (of the song as a whole, not reflecting potential key-changes in bar x, for sure)

So the user could choose the folder and then, for example, type in (the words in capital letters and their "*"es represent the textmodules, everything else represents the freetext):

*CURRENTFILENAME* in *METER*, *TEMPO* beats per minute in *KEY*
which would result in a filename like this:
All the Things You Are in 4-4, 90 beats per minute in Bb

or

*SONGNAME* [*KEY*] with a *FEEL* feel
which would result in a filename like this:
All the Things [Bb] with a sw8 feel

or

*CURRENTFILENAME* - *STYLENAMELONG* - "STYLENAMESHORT" - Tempo *TEMPO* in KEY
which would result in a filename like this:
All the Things You Are - Jazz Swing Trio - J_HERBIS - Tempo 90 in Bb

Having this feature in BiaB 2027 is No. 1 on my 2026 Santa Claus Music Wishlist!

I came to this forum in order to suggest feature improvements for non-professional musicians like myself that use BiaB mainly as a playalong tool and as a learning tool
