Hi, here is my question. Is it possible in BIAB 2013 to repeat two different choruses or sections of some kind like this?

Intro, Chorus A, Chorus A, Bridge, Chorus B, Chorus B, Tag.

Unless you would exceed 255 measures by doing so, I would just copy the chorus A to duplicate it, and do the same for chorus B, making this one long song. Let us know if your song form would be too long to do this, give us some specifics, and we can explore some other options.

Variations on your question have been asked often. I don't mean to speak for Matt but his suggestion of "unfolding" the song into one long chorus suggests that it ain't easy to do otherwise...if possible at all...and then get the chart to PRINT the way you want.

In a recent thread, it was suggested by me...and others...to create a chart the way you would see it in a fake book...print it out...and then add any repeats/endings/tags etc. that you might want with a pen.

Then for practice, you can have a second "unfolded" version.

But Matt knows BIAB extremely well and if there is a way to do what you want to do, then when you provide him additional details he will tell you how to do it...if it can be done.

My bet is that I could do 100 charts modified with pen and ink as fast as anyone could learn to do the chart internally in BIAB!!! (-:

Having said all that, I would VASTLY prefer to see PG develop a way to make the software PLAY songs based on how they LOOK in a typical fakebook chart than to get one single more style let alone style set. By that I mean that we could just pick notation symbols off a list...plug them into the chart with a mouse click and the software would recognize all those normal "form guidance marks/symbols" and play the chart just like any musician would.

MAYBE we can do many of those things now but trust me on this...it ain't easy to figure out how and it COULD BE! Pick a symbol from a drop down list...click it onto the chart at the appropriate place and bingo, bango, bongo...we can have BIAB arrangements of ANY song in ANY fakebook in MINUTES.

HUGE!

Best,

Jim

Thanks Jim. I really don't know what advice I will give until I know more precisely what is being requested. I don't want to get into Wishlist stuff until we see what the OP wants and knows. Your approach may very well be right if printing is important.

I typically unfold the song as the first thing I do.

Then repeats and such are pretty much straightforward..... copy and paste.....same with tags.... pop them in and let er roll.

I use this because it's the path of least resistance to me, and I can look at the song and see instantly where it goes and what it does.

One thing I would love to see in future editions would be the ability to tag the parts with names VERSE 1, CHORUS, TAG, etc..... maybe it has this and I just don't know about it?

BB 2013 has a feature that allows for naming sections of a song layout like that.

Song Form Maker

Quote:
Song Form Maker

The new Song Form Maker allows you to define sections of a song (A, B, C etc.), and then rearrange the song by simply typing the form you want (e.g. AABABAACA). You can revisit the dialog to change the form at any time.

Press the Song Form button (far right of the 2nd toolbar). You will then see the Song Form Maker dialog.

See the Help Files, or the 2013 New Features file for more info if you need it.

Guitarhacker, Mac gave the answer for playback of sections. Or were you asking about labeling them for printing? If you go into the (regular) Notation Mode, or the Editable Notation Mode, you can right-click on a bar and add a Section Letter or Section Text. These show up in Leadsheet View (Fake Sheet or not) and a song printout.

Thanks for the replies. The example I gave is about a specific as I can get without including the number of bars. I am aware that I can write out one long chart. I just wanted to make the chart more concise.

Just in case you haven't found it yet, there is a command that will "Unfold to one long song" at a single button push.

We don't ahve to write it out manually that way in order to make it happen.

I will SaveAs one filename that has my current Repeats and whatnot in the layout, then use that Unfold command, then SaveAs under a slightly modified filename such that I have a copy of the songfile both ways. Perhaps one is better for playback purposes, the other for printing charts, that kind of thing.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
