I've been having these weird audio problems for a few weeks now. When I'm using biab, the audio drags & distorts. I thought at first it was a problem with biab. No It was happening also on an online game. Just a small one I thought I'd try to test a theory that it's not my soundcard. Video seems to drag and the audio gets distorted online as well. Here's what I've tried so far.
Downloaded & Installed the drivers for my video chip and also my soundcard. I've also done the same with my midi keyboard drivers. It's still the same. Could there be a problem with my motherboard ? This started happening BEFORE I formatted my hard drive a few weeks ago. I was hoping a format might cure it. The PC is only about two years old.
Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M2N-MX SE Plus Rev x.xx 2.70 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 256 kilobyte primary memory cache 1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache 64-bit ready Multi-core (2 total) Not hyper-threaded 771.11 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity 536.71 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space 1920 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory Slot 'DIMM0' has 2048 MB soundcard DMX 6fire 24/96
Any help would be appreciated

Where is your Firewire port? On the mainboard?
Gary
I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!

If the audio gets distorted online as well, and in other programs, the pgmusic software likely has nothing to do with the problem.
Check your IRQ table to see if the sound device firewire is being shared with any other device. I don't mean Windoze reporting "no problem" here - it would do that if every device were on one IRQ, bah. You don't want your sound device sharing with anything else, ideally, or at least not with video, network or other high bandwidth device.
To get to your IRQs, go to "Start", "Run", type in "msinfo32" and click "OK". In the left window, click on the "Hardware Resources" plus sign, click on "IRQs" and, after "polling" the computer, it will display what IRQ each peripheral is assigned to in the right window.

Um, when you wake up, what we need is actually named, "IRQ" and I think you will find it under Hardware Resources...
It will be a list of all the IRQ numbers that the devices in your computer are assigned to.

furry. could you also post pics of your dmx user control panel settings. as well as a pic of win task mgr please. on the dpc report its all in the green which is good and no red spikes. but ive seen much lower dpc reports. thus the need to look at your win task manager report of active running tasks.
outside of the music apps..ie normal apps.. any video probs ?? or all ok ?? are you running any net applications while your useing music software ??
also does anyone else use this pc other than yourself eg real time chat programs ?? any new apps installed recently ??

I've tried using the internal sound chip and I get the same results there, so not the soundcard itself. When I run task manager, the only running apps is the audio programme IE biab or adobe audition. I was using sonar about 1/2 hour ago. I had reason open and was recording a fiddle solo onto a track I'd made up. It stopped dead twice without warning. Not a dropout, as it usually tells me. No, it just stopped. The pc was behaving very oddly last night. IE.. the typed words appearing shortly AFTER I'd typed them. Copy & paste very sluggish as well. I've ordered another 2gb memory stick which whould get here within a day or three.
I'll post an image of my running processes a bit later.

Both of your soundcards are on the most shared IRQ channels. Both sharing with USB controllers which can poll a lot.
As far as the weird typing behavior- Scanned that machine lately? Might want to have Malwarebytes run a scan on it ...

Sounds to me like ASIO buffers that are WAY to low. Tweak up to about 12 ms and see what happens.

IRQ 23!!!!
High Def Audio shared with Video. ouch.
HOwever, your problem is likely IRQ 16, in which your Firewire card looks to be shared with USB controller.
As an experiment, try unhooking all USB devices, reboot the puter, then check to see if your audio is still being interrupted.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
