I just ordered 2011 and downloading now but have a question about the iOS version. Below is the text from PG Music website:
- Enter songs from scratch on your BB iPhone by typing in chord symbols to the song.
- Generate audio on your BB iPhone for the songs by pressing play. The songs play on the iPhone and are stored on the iPhone as M4A files.

Are all the styles in the iOS version or is it only that you can work on the songs (with selected style) saved in the Windows desktop folder used by the server?

I did see a brief demo and it looked like a lot of connecting to the "server" was needed short of simply playing midi tracks.

I don't think you sit in a bar, and someone asks for Stairway to Heaven and you enter the chords and get a style and press play. You need to be near the mothership where the 'server' side sits.

But this is the first kick at the cat.

The odd thing is for a new app that pg goes the Iapple route with the windows version. Weird or ...

Hi Dave,
iOS version needed is iOS 4 or higher.

>> Are all the styles in the iOS version or is it only that you can work on the songs (with selected style) saved in the Windows desktop folder used by the server?

It doesn't generate songs on the iPhone, it connects to your desktop version of BB 2011 for Windows, within your house (LAN) or from anywhere (Internet - WiFi or 3G). Once connected, it acts as a client, and you can:
- generate songs, which transfer to and play on the iPhone
- get any songs that you have in the c:\bb\BB2Go folder. Either get one at a time, or Get all.
- send any songs that you make on the iPhone to the BB2Go folder

For example, lets say you have 100 Favorite Songs that you like to play.
1. Put them in the BB2Go Folder.
2. (optional) if you want to pre-generate mp4 audio for them, in desktop Band-in-a-Box, choose [menu]-Windows-BB2Go and that dialog shows you all the files, and you can press a button to generate mp4 audio for all songs.
3. Make sure that Band-in-a-Box Server is running. THis will show up as an icon in System Tray with a musical note. (if it isn't running, you can run it from the BB2Go dialog mentioned in #2 above.
4. Run iPhone BB, choose menu-File-Server, and you should see the IP address of the Band-in-a-Box Server. If you do, then connect to it.
5. If you have any problem connecting or generating songs, it would be because of a firewall or Anti-Virus program blocking communication. If so, create an exception in the firewall or AV program, and the problem should be solved. Usuelly you need to reboot the Band-in-a-Box Server.exe, or the iphone or possibly reboot Windows after you've done that.
6. Once connected, on the iPhone you could choose File-Server-Get Songs- Get All Songs.

This will get your 100 favorite songs, and if you have pre-generated the audio (as in #2), then they are ready to play, and sound identical to how they sound on the BB Desktop, with all of your MIDI and RealTracks sounds.

Also, once connected, you can generate any song in any style, much like you do using the desktop version.

This example above assumes you are using a LAN connection (within your house. For wider connection using Internet, see details on www.pgmusic.com/help100

Have Fun!

Thanks Peter and everyone else that replied. Now I think I understand how the iOS version works.

Ok I got my iPhone working with my home WLAN but having problems over 3G. I changed the server IP address on the iPhone BiaB application from that listed in the PC Desktop BiaB IP server to the world IP address of my router. It looked liked everything was working ok until I tried to regenerate a song over 3G. The progress bar almost made it to the end but this error message popped up:

Band-In-A-Box
The operation couldn't be
completed. (OSStatus error
2003334207.)

I am also confused about the IP address situation and the PG Music online help was not clear about this. Working in my home on the WLAN there is only one IP address required. I just match the iPhone BiaB application to the IP address listed in the PC BiaB server. When going outside and trying to use my mobile phone company 3G network it seems there would be 2 IP addresses involved. One to connect thru the Internet to my router IP address and another for my iPhone BiaB app to talk to the PC BiaB server. The iPhone BiaB app only has one field for the IP address. Once I remove the IP address for using in my home and change to the world IP address of my router how can the application work? By the way, I did setup the port forwarding as instructed in the PG Music online video.

Firewall settings? Your router thinks you are an outside party trying to make unsolicited connections to your computer.I don't have an iPhone so can't speak from total knowledge. Worth thinking about.

Well it worked the second time I tried to regenerate over 3G but it took a few minutes. I have a feeling the iPhone application will not be very practical for me when out of range of my home network and especially over 3G. I still am confused about the 2 IP addresses involved when using over the Internet.

I'm not sure what the exact settings or a step-by-step there would be, but common sense says that if you are outside the range of your Wi-Fi system and want to use the Internet to communicate, then the only IP number that would work is the one your ISP is currently using. The fixed IP for your router is behind that and not likely to be involved at all at that point.

I'm sure someone from PGMusic will be along to clarify, though.

Patience,

Were's Lawrie. This is up his alley or Peter of course.I'm still thinking that once you try and do it over the Internet you are now acting as an outside source try to connect to a server( your home computer). If your home system is not setup security wise to be a server I would think there'd be issues. My Firewall blocks ALL incoming attempts that I haven't initiated and has no open ports that I haven't opened. Port 80 is the only open port.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
