Hi, I'm using 2010.5 Megapack under Win7.
BTW, Although I am new to BIAB, I am reading the manuals and trying to get familiar with the software at the same time.
OK, I enter a song that has 38 bars. At bar 31 there is a 2-bar first ending and the bar following bar 32 is bar number 63 which is the second ending. When I play the song and the 1st ending repeat is executed, the chords are incorrect. In fact it sounds like one or two chords are repeated over and over. When the 2nd ending is executed the chords are correct. What am i doing wrong?

TIA tim

Does the first ending return to the repeat bar. Songs that have an intro will play four bars or more. If you have a four bar intro your repeat would be bar 5 not bar one. It sounds like you have the Tag set right for the second ending.

I can't get the repeat to work on my 2010 version, The 2011 is not here yet.

The song has twenty bars. I want to repeat from bar 5 to bar 20, three times. Can someone outline the steps or procedure?

thanks

Well there are wee boxes. One has the 1st bar, the 2nd has the last bar and the third is the number of repeats. About the middle of the screen.

So in the first box you put 5.

In the 2nd box you put 20.

In the 3rd box you put 3.

The above information is found
a) in the manual
b) in the video tutorials either
on your installation media
[ii] on this website.

from the above don't type square bracket and i or you get ITALICS. Weird or what?

That's part of the forum software coding, John.

This software uses the "UBB" Coding standard.

brackets with an "i" inside invoke Italics.

Entering bracket either side of "/i" turns Italics off at that point, if there isn't the /i anywhere, then it is Italics from there on out.

"b" does much the same thing, only that invokes Bold type, and so on.

Italics

Bold

Bold Italics

There are just a few other commands as well.

There's a key somewhere in the Forum Help.

Wow, I did knew that. I do suppose I look dumb now that I see my avatar. I still like mine better than that kid lived down the street from me, Jimmy Cameron. He can buy more bands than me though. I must soon change my avatar, I'm thinking of Einstein, I'm square and that's the new hip.

But I was nesting parentheses so when I had already used () I went to []. Thanks for the UBB masterclass at any rate.

I suspect you never made it to a Victor Borge concert, I can see the interruptions.

BTW, I do have a vague understanding of interrupts but I'm sure some edification is in order..make 'er a pdf and post it in the trips 'n tips section.

I think Santa Claus had it right, visit people once a year...

No, I do not have an intro on this song.
The entire song is 38 bars long.
The 1st bar has a repeat.
At bar 31 there is a 2-bar first ending.
Bar-32 has a repeat to the 1st bar.
Bar-33 starts a 2-bar 2nd ending and there are 4 additional bars after that.

This is a very simple Xmas tune, "I'll Be Home For Xmas".
I am using these tunes to learn BIAB.

You mention TAGS. I do not have any TAGS checked.

Find a christmas or xmas folder on the net. I think Allanah or um the Wesley Dick both have a christmas folder of music. See how it's done by others.

Just use guggle. (sp on porpoise) use > Band in a Box Allanah or

Band in a Box Wesley Dick.

Folders of stuff eh?

I almost always learn from others, even if I find them a bad example and don't emulate them.

I always use the lazy way . . . roll out the verses into one longer song. This way I don't worry about repeats etc. etc.

To John's point above, this may be a bad example that you may find useful to emulate.

In the middle of the Edit Repeats and Endings box is a check box that says "Generate (insert) new bars". You have to check that.
The problem here is you're thinking like a musician not a computer (imagine that!). You know that you want to repeat those bars and musically all you do is put in the 1st ending and repeat and any player that reads that knows what to do. This is a computer, not a player. All Biab knows right now is it's a 38 bar song. If you put in repeats, it's no longer a 38 bar song, right? This is why some of us will recommend to start out as one long song with all the repeats and stuff written out, then put in 1st/2nd endings etc later because the bars are already there and that takes care of any confusion about this. To me and I think you too, we're smart enough to figure this out once it's pointed out to us so you don't need to do that.

You have to check that box to add the additional bars and the chords attached to those bars are filled in automatically.

Bob is correct when saying you must check the Generate (insert) new bars. If you do not have this selected the repeat will be generated however you will only see "gray" bars (indicating these bars are the repeat chords) without the chords contained in them AND yes it will only play once chord over and over again.

Thank you Bob for point this out to me as well. I have experienced this same exact problem when generating repeats. "and here I thought I had to copy and past the repeated bars in the "gray" bars.....geeezee all it took was a click of the mouse to get it done"

Thanks again.

Problem Solved...
When I checked the box "Generate (insert) New Bars" everything worked.

Thank you very much, I don't think I would have figured this out alone...

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
