After updating to 2011 i've noticed some of the real tracks sound different and not for the better.

Specifically i was just doing a bossa track and wanted to use the Guitar, Electric, Soloist, Bossa 140 and when it was playing it was almost as if there was some kind of filter effect on it, very subtle but it just didn't sound like it did before. I've noticed the same thing with some of the saxophone real tracks too.
With the saxophones it almost sounds as if there are two different sounds playing at the same time.

I've tried altering the different settings in realtrack preferences but nothing has made a difference.

Anyone else experienced this?

I'm guessing your computer is having trouble with the new stretching algorythm.
What are the specs on the system?
operating system, processor and RAM, maybe free disk space and what size the disk is

Also, there are many threads on here about how to test this, by using (or not) the +/- files. Once your specs are out it may help confirm (or disprove) this guess.

Here's one of the threads, worth reading-

mellowstu,

Further to what rharv says ...

As a test, it might also pay to deactivate the "Fast Generation of Realtracks" found under Opt >> Preferences >> Realtracks. By deactivating this option, the song will not start playing until all tracks have been generated. If it is a CPU problem, this will ease the load on the CPU. Be aware that it will take the song 10 or 20 secs longer to start playing once you initiate generation.

Regards
Noel

I'm using windows 7, Intel core i5 processor with 4GB ram. I have 3 500 GB hard drives, the one with biab on has 200GB free.

Everything else sounds fine and i wasn't even stretching the tempo of the track, it was at 140 bpm.

I've tried testing with and without +/- files and disabled fast generation.

I think my system is up to the job and its only with the few real track soloists i mentioned, all the others sound fine.

Are the Soloist within the recommended tempo? Samba may be out of range.

No, i'm not playing them together. Guitar at 140 and sax at 190, i'm not stretching them at all.

I can live with the sax but the guitar just doesn't sound right. I'll try posting some audio so you can here what I mean.

Try playing the "raw" RealTrack files from the RealTracks storage folder using something like the Media Player and see if they sound the same or not.

They both sound fine here although I'm no expert on the sound of the Soprano sax.

They sound ok here too. I notice each of the named RTs has a "bluesy" counterpart. Is it possible both are loaded, ie. using the "medley" option set to "simultaneous?"

Whoa. In testing my own question, I discover that once you've used the medley option to assign a second RT, you can't clear it from other controls within the RT trackpicker dialog or even by using the right click route directly on the chord sheet - eg. by assigning "silence" to the track. You gotta go into the medley dialog and remove them.

Perhaps the OP has the medley option active?

Hello mellowstu,

Open the DirectX window, and toggle to the audio track. Check to make sure there aren't any audio effects enabled there.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
