Hi All,

Just tried using chord builder for the first time...not getting any sound when I press the "play" button to hear the chord?

Spookily enough I tried using the "virtual drum set" and I got no sound there either.

Have been playing songs OK though.

If somebody could let me know which of my fingers is causing this I'd be very grateful, thank you.

Regards,

Dave

Some of the 'extra' plugin programs require using the Windows default MIDI device.
If you are monitoring a different synth (hardware or software) this may be the issue.

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thanks for the reply. Not sure if I tried the right thing but I went into audio drivers/sittings and changed the audio drivers from micro sound mapper to the vynl AC 97 option but am still getting no sound from chord builder...I'm not sure if I was on the right lines? Thanks.

Hi All.

I've had another play with this but still no joy!? Do I need to change my setup or add something to my system? Thanks.

Those sounds come from your chosen MIDI synth, not the Audio Settings.

Try highlighting the Microsoft Software Synth in the RH MIDI output window, even if you are really using a DXi synth with the checkbox down below, then make sure that "Route MIdI Thru..." is also checked and see if that allows you to hear the Chord Builder.

If all else fails, try rebooting the machine and if still no joy, try Options -> Return to Factory Settings.

Hi Mac,

Thank you very much for the post - I just spotted it before I had to "resort" to contacting the "official" help desk!! I changed my midi output driver thing! and it all appears to work fine now. Many thanks.

I feel like a donkey but..

Having managed to get the chord builder working a few days ago I've just gone to use it today and guess what no sound (likewise with ear traing utility).

The only reason I can think of that would have caused the loss it that I've run my virus and computer cleaner programmes...is it possible that they can mess up midi settings? I have touched the midi setup stuff since it was working.

Anyway, based on the above help I had a go at setting up the midi driver output and it is now set to the microsoft GS table (which is what it was at already I think?!).

Also tried the "return to factory settings options" but still had no joy!

Sorry to be a pain but any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Regards,

Dave Hee Haw!

Just to let you know...

Went into computer system and looked at audio control panel window, when I got to the large audio window I saw that the "sw synth" volume slider was all the way down...I hadn't touched it 'onest guv! Anyway slider moved up a bit and all now OK?!!

Really thought I ought to share this as it's the first time one of my posts is not a "newbee" question! So I won't ask how the slider moved it self!

I don't know if there still is this bug, but if you happened to use Windows Media Player to play an audio file, it has been known to reset the MIDI sliders down to zero. Just a thought.

Yes, it may have been turned down by Windows.

And you should turn it ALL THE WAY UP for best sound quality.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
