I am trying to generate a tab for mandolin of a melody in biab and it appears that it can't be done. Any help? I see the tab in other instruments, ie guitar, but not in the melody.

I believe that you are correct that you cannot create tablature using BIAB; you can only view tab of RealTracks that came with tab.

You should look into TablEdit. That is a program that is supposed to be able to create tab for any stringed instrument, and some non-stringed instruments! They say you can import a MIDI file. So you could take a melodoy from BIAB, export it to MIDI, and create tab in TablEdit. I have never used it myself -- only saw it on the web.

Thanks. BTW I was able to get tab in BiaB. I am going to find out if there is any way to open tab/edit files in BiaB.

Band in a Box can indeed do certain TAB notations.

In Notation View, hit the Options button to the left and in the upper lefthand section of the window that opens there are dropdowns to invoke Guitar and a few other instrument TABS.

Thanks. Do you know if there is a way to open tab/edit files with biab. I know I can open them if they are midi but I would like to know if there is any way to convert tab/edit files with biab. Thanks again.

I don't know what you mean by "tab/edit" files. Something from another program, perhaps?

TAB/EDIT is a program just for tab. It seems to have many files for free and my son is using it for some classical music. I think biab would be better but I would have to buy the program tab/edit to be able to convert the tab/edit files to midi so that I could import them to biab.

Yes you can. You can save the Tabedit files to midi files which will open in BB. Import them into the Melody line, change melody to guitar and you will see tabs displayed. These can be edited just as Mac says. Hope this helps.

But there is not way to use the tab/edit files without exporting them first to midi, right? Not sure if the tab/edit program is worth it just to convert the files to midi.

You're right. Tabedit files are only good for the Tabedit software. If you're looking for Classical music for him to learn and/or play with, just go to the web browser and type in "free band-in-a-box songs" and you will find a lot of web sites full of free music of all genders which will work with BB. Also, Notes Norton has a lot of different fake books, which I'm sure would include classical, that he sells at a very reasonable in price. You just have to look around. Check it out..

I'm a 60's rock' in' roll guitarist nut and I especially like the Venture's music from that era. I found 69 of their 60's music, the more popular ones from that era which included a full band and music was very similar to the way they played it. I took the music, deleted the melody line and I use it to practice with and to teach with. So good luck with the search.

Peyton_56:

Another good program to edit tab (shows notation & tablature) and it also imports Tabledit & midi files is Guitar Pro 6 ($60 USD)

To get it into BIAB you would need to first export it from Guitar Pro into a midi format

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
