Here are some videos of my last gig. I played my Gypsy Solo Program.

I used a looper. It`s not a playback, but stuff that I pre-recorded into the looper. I sliced it into heads and solos, so I could keep everything flexible, since the solos are improvised.

I recorded everything myself except the Bass on "Minor Swing" is a BB Realtrack and the Bass on "You And Me" played a friend of mine.

I`m not much of a scale player. I usually think in chords and focus on chord tones. And Gypsy per se has a strong focus on chord tones/arpeggios either.

But if that helps, as opposed to Jazz, Gypsy uses alot of Am, Dm, E7, A7, C6/9 stuff. In Jazz you have more flat scales (like Bb, Eb, F, etc)

You just gotta listen to some of the characteristic licks of Gypsy songs and you will quickly understand that idiom.

Sharon has the truth of the situation in her explanation.

FWIW I'm agreed with Sharon about scale vs the chord patterns and it falls in line with what Carole Kaye has a lot to say about as well. The scalar method prepares the player to play, well, scales. Lots of the jazz idiom, not just Gypsy, relies on mastering the arpeggio stuff. Many of the older greats emphasized playing off of chord patterns as their base methodology as well, which amounts to saying pretty much the same thing.

Time for you to get your guitar out again Sam and learn a few new chords. I believe Sandara is not far from you and gives guitar lessons as well, so no excuses!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
