I'm using a ua-4x and sd2. I get everything ready in BIAB and mix. The song sounds fine to me. Then I render to .wav and play it. It doesn't sound the same and some instrument volumes are now different than when I played the song in BIAB. Would it be better to just open the song in RB? Should I try to do the mixing in RB or another daw? I currently have Mixcraft and Wavepad available. Thanks for any suggestions.

Stan, if you have trouble rendering, there is another way you can try: direct recording of the song. Start Wavepad recording, then play the BIAB song. This is the way I made all my .WAV files for BIAB songs for years before rendering or Drag & Drop was possible. The added benefit is you can trim the ends and do fades as needed.
Just make sure Wavepad and BIAB are not both using the same soundcard with ASIO drivers.
BIAB 2024 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 6.5 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6; Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Roland Integra-7, Presonus Studio 192, Presonus Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors

UPDATE: Drag and Drop works fine going from BIAB to Mixcraft. I just dragged the tracks to Mixcraft, added effects, the mixed to an mp3 file. I can't get drag and drop to work from biab to rb. At least I ended up with a workable solution. Thanks, Matt!
Thanks Matt. I may try your suggestion with Mixcraft. Although I see "Record" on Wavepad, I'm not sure how the"Play" output gets from BIAB to Wavepad. I know that I don't have ASIO drivers in use for BIAB or RB.
Actually, I usually end up in Wavepad anyway since I can't get BIAB or RB to render to an mp3.

SD2 is a hardware synth, fast Rendering cannot be done with a hardware synth.
The reason your fast Render sounds different is because it must be using one of the DXi/VSTi synths installed on your computer to effect the fast Rendering.
You have to record the Audio L & R outputs of the SD2 to an Audio .wav stereo track instead. From beginning to end.
Possible to do in BiaB using the single Audio track available, much easier to do in RB IMO.
OR - use another recording app to record BB as it plays back. Audacity works for that here.

Hi Mac. Thanks for your comments. I was wondering if that was the problem. How do you set your BIAB "Record" to output to Audacity? When using midi, I always try to use the SD2. It was your recommendation of it that got me hooked. Thanks. Stan

Hi Shastastan,
Since the SD-2 is the audio device that you're trying to record, you'd have to hook the output of the SD-2 to the input of your UA-4X. Ensure Audacity/RealBand is set to record the input from your UA-4X. Then simply hit Record, and press play in Band in a Box.
If you open the Band in a Box song in RealBand, you can do all of this in one program as Mac was suggesting.
HTH, Will

Yes, I've done it in RB and merged all audio tracks to .wav file. RB is indeed easier. I can see the SD2 blue led blinking as I record audio. I'll just bring the file into RB from now on to mix. thanks.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
