Hi,

I purchased an USB EWI. I want to use the SD2 as the output Synth and the Akai
as the input in BIAB 2010.5. I get sounds but I can't get the wind volume to
adjust with the strength of the breath. Is there a breath control app I need?

Thanks,

Bob Y

As far as I remember, the EWI should have a switch on it to enable/disable breath control.

Band-in-a-Box has a setting to filter out controller messages when recording MIDI, but these filters should be off by default:

Opt. | Preferences | Rec.Filter

Unfortunately I have the USB EWI. I think that is dependent on an external synth.

Hi Bob Y. I use an EWI USB wind controller, however I do not use it in BiaB but the set up should be the same regardless. Included in the EWI USB was a manual and an editor program called Akai EWI USB. If you haven’t installed it do so. Open the editor and under tools are preferences for selecting your input and output devices and EWI configuration, which you can adjust various parameters such as wind volume, pitch bend, fingering etc. Just experiment to see what are the best settings for you. But sure to save your settings. The manual will explain everything you need to know about the settings.

Also be sure to set your BiaB inputs and outputs accordingly and be sure to check BiaB’s midi controller features.

I’m assuming that your SD2 does respond to CC2, i.e. breath control. If it does you may have to set it up accordingly. If it doesn’t you may have to set the breath controller #2, called breath CC2 in the editor, to either CC11 or CC7. I would suggest you use CC11 and set your master volume with CC7.

I hope this helps and good luck.

I just posted a selfie and all of the responses were get well soon!

The SD2 manual does not have a CC2 in the list. Maybe it can do Breath Control, I don't know, as I don't have nor use the EWI, but if the SD2 can be made to respond to Breath Control CC2 data, it may be that you would have to use some circuitous route to do so, maybe Sysex or the like.

But first I'd hook directly to the SD2 input and send the Breath data from the instrument and listen to see if there was any response. Isolation like that could prove or disprove a lot.

The SD2 doesn't have a USB input. But I'll do some checking Thanks,

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
