I kept getting distortion especially when using RealTracks and normalizing them to a WAV file. I kept thinking the problem was with BIAB but it appears to be my wife's five year old Dell laptop.
When normalizing on my desktop computer there is no audible distortion. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this but wanted to apologize to BIAB and to pass this on.
If someone has tips for me to use with that laptop, I'm all ears so to speak.

Whatcha playing it thru?
Sounds like the speakers can't handle the full volume or something is amiss in the mixer
Make your sound your own!

It's playing through professional equipment and all the settings are at unity gain.
The USB stick goes through a Yamaha CP5 stage piano and the outputs from that piano go through ...

Bose 802-C System Controller
QSC PLX1804 amplifier
2 Bose 802 Series II speakers

Seriously though, rendering with an old laptop shouldn't make any difference, maybe just take longer. Check all your settings in BiaB and your buffers. Sound card shouldn't have any effect because you are still in the digital realm, but check your drivers anyway. Maybe try MME instead of asio. You mentioned a usb stick, maybe it is the usb socket. Try transfering a file via e-mail or cd. Could be millions of things. If the laptop is slow as well as old you could try using it as an internet pc to keep your music pc clean without all the antivirus stuff.

If you are trying to Record .wav from the piano's output, most laptops do not have a real LINE input and the MIC input on them is going to be way too sensitive to accept a LINE level audio input, as well as not having very good noise spec.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
