I have been experimenting with steel drum sounds. I'm looking for a drum roll or "diddle" effect that will sound like a marimba multiple-hit mallet sound. It's not like an echo, each strike is equal with no tangible decay. Sorry for the poor description but I don't know the musical terms for what I am after. Apparently, Val had an older organ with a switch and speed control labeled RE-ITERATOR that would add the effect to a sustained note. That's what I want. Hopefully Val will jump in and translate this into musical jargon for me. I suspect that our resident B3er, Mac will understand and suggest the correct effect.

The Theater Organists called it, "Repeat" but that really emulated a Roll of the two sticks, typically on the same note.
The B3 never had Repeat tab and speed control on it, because to do so would have cost an inordinate amount of money given the tonewheels and all those switches. Later home models of Hammonds finally featured a Repeat tab on them, due to the demand and the fact that all the other organ brands already had 'em.
Problem with attempts to replicate same with MIDI single note samples is what is known as the "machine gun effect" - which hardly ever does it justice.
There may be samples of the whole role out there somewhere, mapped to one note.

Mac, It was a Gulbranson Organ that had the reiteration feature, at least that's what they called it. (that was many years ago).I have been looking at the IK Multimedia site and they have several FX listed for Marimba but they don't have any way to listen to them to tell if they do what I am looking for. I want it to alternate between 3rd or 6th notes. I would be only to happy to purchase their product if it's what I want but I hate to go to the expense and then not get what I want. (IDEA) Maybe I'll try their facebook page and see if anyone will post a sample of the sound. Thanks Don, for bringing this subject up!
Also wondering if IK Multimedia will work right on PC's since it's designed for Apple. I know the Sample Tank Instruments that were included with the 2013 version of BIAB work beautifully but I don't know if there was any adjustments made by BIAB to make them work right on the PC's. Anyone know?

Having lived thru the Home Organ "era" when they were selling like hotcakes, working both as Sales staff as well as Repair Tech, I can list a lot of organ brands that featured the Repeat.
Gulbranson did take a different path on the NAMING of the feature, using the "Reiteration" label rather than the more common "Repeat" found on some of the competing brands.
Wurlitzer had the feature as well, labeled, "Repeat".
Lowry, ditto.
etc.
The only major US brand that took their time introducing the feature was Hammond, for reasons mentioned earlier, cost of implementation on the tonewheel system would have driven the purchase price too high at the time. But, eventually even Hammond added the Repeat tab to their home "theater" models as well as the "lesser" transistorized generator models.

Just went and checked those links you posted. The steel drum sounds are the best I've ever heard! The MalletPak One from Puremagnetic has exactly the marimba sound (medium mallet) I've been looking for! Thanks so much for posting these links. I had spent days looking for these. Now all I need is to learn how to use them.

As for that well known machine gun effect, most DAW's have a function that allows you to highlight just the part in question and then slightly randomize the timing and/or velocity of the hits to get rid of that or at least greatly reduce it. You hear that on midi files where the author didn't know what they were doing.

The machine gun effect is due more to the fact that most Percussion instruments don't respond to Velocity data, a 1 is often the same as a 127 in many synths.
But since we're talking a Marimba, which is in the Melodic Bank, it may indeed be possible to create a realistic roll, albeit it would take some time to pull it off.
