there comes a time when ya gotta stop talkinabouddit and do something. Like many others here, I've been gearing up to start playing music again when I retire. My work hours are long, but with whatever discretionary time I have, I've been building my backing tracks.

I finally booked a small gig in another state so nobody I know sees me if it sucks. ;-)

June 7th... two weeks from yesterday.

I took the next two weeks as vacation so I can blitz my material and hopefully be ready to stand in front of people without fear of making mistakes.

It will be a game-changer one way or the other. If it goes well, I may go ahead and retire now. If it sucks, I will push retirement back a few years and keep practicing. If it REALLY sucks, I may sell everything and make new retirement plans.

There won't be any videos posted, but I will probably post a
HUMILIATION-O-METER

Look for an update sometime after the 7th

Thanks Tommy!
Hey, remember the old TV show "PALADIN?"

The thought occurred to me as I left work last night to have business cards made with a chess knight like Paladin's... and a catch phrase "HAVE FUNK... WILL TRAVEL"

unfortunately, only old timers would get it.
But then, that's my target demographic...

Pat,

I think that would be a mistake. Too many variables, out of your control. Bad crowd. Ball game on the big screens. Bad wait staff. Bad venue for live sound - a bunch of things that don't reflect on your performance. (Think Blues Brothers playing "Bob's Country Bunker")

Of course, you might just have a bad night.

You're an analytical person. Give yourself enough time and variation to get good study results.

Regards,

Bob

Remember, even of you go off the charts on the suck-o-meter you play and sing better than the people int he audience who can't do either AT ALL.

I have to think nobody is expecting Sinatra so give them the best Pat Marr you can give them and you'll be fine.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

Richard Boone. Great old fashioned short story acting stuff.

FYI, you can find a lot of Have Gun, Will Travel episodes posted on YouTube.

Band names, act promotion, it seems almost anything goes.

I think it should read, "Have Guit, Will Travel" though.

The wife and I are playing s Senior Citizens Center this Monday for a Memorial Day celebration. This particular center is loaded with US veterans. The Armed Forces Medley is always popular, as I go through the various service songs, instead of asking them to stand, we pass out little flags and ask them to wave their flags when they hear their service song.

And, I think, every one of 'em would remember Paladin on TV every Saturday night "back in the day".

You BREAK A LEG on that gig, now, hear?

PRACTICE.

Hey, Pat.

Glad to see you're giving it a go. Stay cool and I'm sure it'll go well.

How about posting a set-list so we can see what you're about?

Best wishes for a "Knock 'em dead" show, Pat! (great Irish name, by the by). I hope you have great success, Amigo. Wishing I could hear it.

And, welcome to San Francisco's Carlton Hotel, Hey Boy! Where is Missy Wong?

(I listen to HGWT on OTR a lot but Paladin is played by John Dehner on the radio version).

My bet is that it will take 2-3 songs then you won't even remember it was your 1st gig in a long time. Then on the ride home you will be asking yourself why it took so long for you to get back into the water?

Break A Leg!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
