Several weird things here: why is Roland selling? The name TASCAM has only been a source of hassle to me with my US-800, Craig Anderton is now a Gibson employee?

WOW is right! I hope history doesn’t repeat itself!

A few years ago Gibson bought Vision, one of the best Apple and PC MIDI sequencers around at that time. Within a year Vision went under! If this happens again I will not be a happy camper!

Craig explains what happened to Vision in a thread that is going on right now on Cakewalk.

You know, if PG Music wanted to cash in on this, if it were me I would be getting RB and BIAB and anything else into Anderton's hands.

Anderton has recently gushed about another DAW fairly regularly, that being Mixcraft from Acoustica - recent award (2013) from EM magazine as well as this lengthy review on Harmony Central: http://www.harmonycentral.com/t5/Expert-Reviews/Acoustica-Mixcraft-Pro-Studio-6-DAW/ba-p/34638591

Imagine Mixcraft's video integration and DAW-ness, mixed in with BIAB/RB potential for one killer application suite for home music and video production.

Lots of losses and people taking early retirement offers, scroll to the last article.

I certainly don't know the details of what's happening in the world wide music equipment market but I think it's related to iPads, five buck music apps, small cheap controller keyboards, pure electronic "music", and lots of DJ's.

"To everything, there is a season..."

Being sold to Gibson may not be the end of a fine product. Only time will tell.

I've been with Cakewalk/Twelve Tone since about '94 starting with Cakewalk 3.0 and think it is fine product which has always worked well for me up to the current X2 Producer.

I have no insights on the matter but I hope you are correct with the above comment.

IMO...should this acquisition occur and Gibson decides to implement some sort of dongle scheme for the future releases that will be it.
Which means X2 (or X3) will be the last release for me until I go below the dirt.

Should be interesting to see how it all washes out.

I hope you are right and I'm wrong. smile

Carry on....

Apparently the timing is coincidental, but SONAR X3 has been leaked and should be formally announced in a few more days. The feature list we have seen so far (from Sweetwater) looks quite good to me.

Cakewalk will become part of Tascam, and Tascam is part of the many Gibson brands. Along with others, I have a Tascam control surface (a hardware product) that is still working fine but is no longer supported by Tascam with drivers for the newest versions of Windows or Mac OS. This is unfortunate. I'm hoping that, with Tascam now offering a DAW, perhaps they will reconsider supporting their equipment that is used with a DAW.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
