I've spent a long time searching through many, many PG styles for a suitable RealTracks replacement for PG's original ZZBouncy style, particularly the B section. Its bouncy B section sounds to me like it has about the right feel for old songs like John Sebastian's "Welcome Back (Kotter)", Sheena Easton's "Morning Train," and songs with a similar beat. I'd even be happy with an updated style that used some Midi, some RealTracks. But I haven't found anything that works nearly as well. Any suggestions?

Band in a Box has an automatic substitution of Realtracks for MIDI styles built in, but you have to turn it on to use it.
Go to Prefs -> RealTracks and look at the listing on the RH side of that little window.
Find, "Auto-replace MIDI styles with RealTracks styles when songs loaded" and set it to True.
That said, there apparently is no RealTracks substitution available for the good old Bouncy style, but we have the option of rolling our own and saving it.
Believe it or not, you might find some Dixieland labeled backing instruments that will work with or instead of Bouncy.
Uae the Stylepicker's Filters for Feel and Tempo as well, by first loading a songfile that already uses Bouncy as the style and then using the Search feature inside the Stylepickjer to find RealTracks styles that are compat as to feel and tempo. Audition right inside the Stylepicker by first starting the song to Play and have Loop checked, then you can simply doubleclick styles from within Stylepicker and hear them get substituted into the playing songfile without leaving the Stylepicker window. Doesn't sound right, simply pick and doubleclick another until you find one that does.

Thanks, Mac. Good suggestions. I also discovered that another way to find substitute styles is to note the titles of the songs PG gives as examples for the style you like, then use that title to search for other styles that fit. In the case of these "bouncy" styles, PG gives the Beatles' "Penny Lane" (along with Maxwell's Silver Hammer) as an example. That's just the beat I'm looking for, and searching for Penny Lane does yield some more styles. The odd thing is, though, that all of these "Penny Lane" styles are also older MIDI, pre-Real Tracks styles -- except for maybe two, that are very, very country (HEEHAWH?) It seems odd that with RealStyles covering so many genres, it's so tough to find a substitute for good old ZZBouncy. Maybe with BIAB 2014?

jholman:
If I had the assignment to put together the backing tracks for Welcome Back Kotter, and do it NOW, I would use _CTRYSWU.
Yes I know it's "country", but it has that pronounced back beat that Kotter needs.
I tried a search for "back beat" in the Style Picker but, as you said, nothing came up for any RealTracks. You might want to put it on the Styles Wishlist if you haven't already done so.
Good luck! LLOYD

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
