Is there a way to force RealBand instruments to NOT jump an octave up and in that way in my ears ruin an other ways perfect comp. It is particularly annoying with a B3 suddenly jumping an octave or when the bass break a smooth walk up from G to C with f.ex. the B one octave up. I realize that I MAY get the results I want by re-generating the track(s). I just want a more predictable way of doing things - if that is possible.
As it is now I render a lot of wave files with re-renders of each track and cut/paste the best bars. Not very convenient....
.... still there is nothing better than BIAB. I'm very ready for the next update.

Hi Syrinx,
You'd find it better to assemble your arrangement in Realband. In Realband it's possible to highlight a section of a track that you don't particularly like and simply regenerate the highlighted section. (That's what I do.)
Another option is to generate the tracks and then transfer them as wav files to to a DAW. When in the DAW, it's simply a matter of copying from sections that are ok and then paste them over the sections that don't appeal.
Hope this helps, Noel

Thanks Noel. Is it possible to regenerate only a few bars in BIAB? If you Export to RealBand, this is possible there. --Mac

I would still like to know why the octave jumps. Is it because style creators believe that it is stylistically realistic? I mean at what point in the process of creating a realtrack or realstyle does this stylistic aberration (my opinion) occur?
I just was handed my 54 song New Years Eve song list, so I prepared 54 bass rehearsal tracks in various styles from polka to bossa nova, all with real tracks. I found the octave jumps to be quite persistent, no matter how many regenerations I did.

If we are talking RealTracks, it is probably because of the length of the phrases selected by the program to match the chords you entered. RealTracks are played back in phrases of varying lengths, from a measure to maybe 8 measures long if I recall correctly. When the program joins two selected phrases, what is the likelihood that the bassist always ends one phrase in the same range as the beginning of the next one? This is an actual player, and when the range is different, you will hear this as octave jumps.
You might consider adding a Wishlist request, to add the intelligence needed to avoid this when possible.

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
