Hi All,

Is it my imagination or is the sound quality in Realband better than BIAB. I loaded a song from BIAB and it sounded better in REALBAND, am I nuts or is my hearing going.

Yes, however you do have to keep in mind that default EQ and Reverb may be different across the two apps, which may give the impression one sounds better. Check out the FXs...

Also, when you open a BB songfile in RB, notice that all volume and pan settings from BB are reset to 90 by design.

You have to MIX the song in RB after bringing it in. Which is the point of RB, actually.

As for RB sounding "better" than BB - shouldn't be the case, investigate your BB Mixer and possibly MIDI synth choices as well as the RealTracks and RealDrums overall Volume settings until you have your system Normalled as to audio response.

If you are using BB2014, understand that there is a Limiter built in to the Master Volume adjust to prevent Clipping. Turning the Master up too far will thus change the overall sound of a playback significantly.

In RealBand, you would have to add a Plugin on the Master slot in order to duplicate.

It's very much possible for RB to sound better.

It's not necessarily imagination. Could be one of many settings.
Use what works.

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

The whole point of having RealBand is that you can open the tracks there and be able to do the things necessary to turn what may have started as a Band in a Boc Autoaccompaniment into a finished multitrack recording, two entirely different goals.

If the tracks imported into RealBand with the Volume and etc. Settings that existed in Band in a Box, attempts to make changes would soon run into other problems. For example, an imported track that happened to be "too loud" would not have the proper Gain Staging in order to allow you to do that properly. A "blasty" sounding track would be the result. Hence all tracks open with Vol set to 90 in RB.

Expecting RealBand to operate exactly like Band in a Box doesn't make much sense, consider that if such was the case, RealBand would not even be needed!

absolutely agree mac.. RB is really the point where you refine your song for mixing..pasting and editing parts of solos I find a great help whether that can be done in BIAB someone might put me right on that..but as I say RB is the next step for me anyhow to finish a song.

Yes it is very possible for Real Band to sound different and often better than BiaB on the same song file.

In BB, many of the tracks will be rendered from midi using the default synth. When you open the same project in Real Band, where it is possible to do so, it will render those tracks from the real tracks audio files which are sampled instruments, not midi synth generated sounds.

It is for this reason that I try to work with styles that use real tracks in them in BB because it will render from the sampled instruments in this case. The result being a BB file that doesn't sound quite as midi as it might otherwise have been.

When loading that file and opening it in Real Band, it will cause a totally new rendering of those tracks unless you have frozen them. So even if you have a song in BB using the real tracks entirely, when you open it in RB, it creates all new tracks.

If you are used to hearing it in BB one way, as you worked on it there, and now you open it in RB, and RB rendered new tracks, yes, it will sound different. It's often a surprise to me when I render the tracks to a song in Real Band. Mainly because I have gotten used to the way BB was playing the song.... intro, verses, choruses, etc.... Since RB renders from scratch, what I get there is often a pleasant surprise. If I don't like it, I simply select the track, delete it and have it render that same track again. And it never fails to generate something totally new in the process.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
