Hi,

Up to now I have been trying to enter the melody by the normal way guessing the notes in Notation Edit view.

I understand that I can use the qwerty keyboard and just tap along which I have tried in biab 2014. Using this way it seems to record ok as I can see the notes in notation.

Thing is when I press the lower keys on keyboard such as x,c,v, etc I hear a note and would prefer to hear a silence when I click as the same note repeating over and over just puts me off my timing. I just want to hear the midi style or realtracks playing and not hear the note that I am tapping on keyboard.

Is there a way to do this, I have searched for Midi Thru if that has anything to do with it but no great help in manual?

There also seems to be a little latency when I tap the keyboard and actually hearing note, As I am using MNE driver would using the ASIO on my audio interface be a better option when doing this?

Lastly has anyone got any success with the keyboard entry method compared to the conventional way of entering notation?

Many thanks for any help.
Regards
Jan

QWERTY Keyboard Wizard works fine, if you have no MIDI keyboard connected, if you get the all-important RHYTHMIC pattern of the keypresses for your intended Melody line instead of concentrating on the Notes chosen. Also helps a lot not to stay on just one key when doing that.

After tapping in the correct Rhythm pattern for the Melody, we must use the Music Notation Editor or the PianoRoll View to grab each note, which would then be of proper timing and duration, to the intended pitch for each note. Takes longer to type this than actually do it.

I usually like to SING, WHISTLE, or use the "singer in my head" while also punching the qwerty keys, that alone can get the right rhythm patterns for that Melody.

As for the latency, revisit the Options->MIDI/Audio window and experiment with the latency setting number a bit when using MME drivers - this also depends on what you are using for a Softsynth at the time, which we don't know at this stage of it.

As for not hearing the Melody track at all while playing, use the MUTE function of the Melody track, may work, don't know, I've never tried that, would rather hear the thing as I press the keys.

Thank you Mac, as always your replies are very helpful.

I will just concentrate more as you say on getting a good rhythm going on in my head.

The mute thing on melody track doesn't work, can still hear the note while tapping out the rhythm.

But never mind.

Jan

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
