I'm trying to get into the habit of using keyboard shortcuts rather than the mouse. According to the BIAB manual, CTRL+ALT+ A should decrease the master volume in increments of 5, and CTRL+ALT+S should increase the master volume by 5, but it doesn't appear to work for me.
Will someone please check to see if it works for you.?
Thanks in advance

Keith;

It works here. I use it all the time.

Hmmmm...thanks for checking Gene. All of the other shortcuts seem to work okay....perhaps I have an incorrect setting somewhere.
Do you use any other shortcuts prior to using this one? Perhaps CTRL ADT D - Set master volume?

Hi Keith,

All shortcuts work fine here - it may be a good idea to think about a "return to factory settings"

Hi Jazzman,
Thank you....I did a new BIAB re-install yesterday, so that's probably not the problem, however I'll take your advice and see what happens.
Thanks for your suggestion.

Sometimes the critical file can get corrupted at install, Keith, or perhaps shortly thereafter, so using Return to Factory Settings, which rebuilds that file (intrface.bbw) can even fix things that don't work as they should in a brand new install.

Hi Keith,

Sometimes when re-installing files do not always "overwrite" because something in the original file pervents that from happening - that could be your problem

Jazzman is correct.

When doing a reinstall "right overtop" of itself, BB does not rewrite that critical "intrface.bbw" file, it attempts to use the old one you had so that BB will open with all your favorite settings still in place.

But that file is volatile in the sense that BB must read it when first opening and then write to it when BB closes.

Anything that gets in the way of that last write process will likely = a corrupt intrface.bbw file.

Return to Factory Settings is there, use it whenever BB stops doing things it is supposed to do.

We used to have to shut down BB and find the file in the bb folder and delete or move it ourselves. (I'm the guy who suggesed the Return to Factory menu option to Peter and he went with it, a great improvement IMO, especially now, because we have the option to store the last working scenario and get it right back, etc. )

From experience, I'd say that Return to Factory clears up maybe 90% or more of such problems when and if they arise.

Thank you Mac. At your suggestion, some time ago I copied & stored the .bbw file in another folder on the computer. Should I try to copy it & paste it back into the BB folder?

You didn't say what was happening to the volume, but I found (in 2008.5 I believe) that the first time I used it, it set all the volumes to 127 (max). Same with the keyboard shortcut to reduce volumes. Once you did that with either shortcut, they worked correctly after that. Might have been fixed in 2009, I haven't tried it.
Good luck.

Thanks Barry. When I get home I'll try out all suggestions. I'm using 2009-282 so I'm right up to date.

Well this is really puzzling. I've tried all of the keyboard shortcuts that relate to muting & selecting parts, and the shortcuts that relate to volume controls. They all work fine EXCEPT for CTRL+ALT+A and CTRL+ALT+S - increase/decrease master volume.
I've done a return to factory option (twice) and still these two options don't work.
Two further questions: is there (somewhere) an override box to check or uncheck to permit these settings?
When you use the two above shortcuts, should it show a change in the individual patch volume numbers? (0-127)

Barry, when I try the 2 culprit shortcuts, there is no change in volume at all, and I've tried both through the computer to an amp, and just through my keyboard.

Cheers,
Keith

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
