been offline for 2 days with attyahoo issues. tech came out today and said 3 states were out (OK, KS and parts of TX) due to prolonged rain (22 days straight). finally getting people back online. rivers are well over flood stage. another 2 feet and it will breach the dam.

I hope you mean another two feet and it will OVERFLOW the dam. A breach would be catastrophic.

thanks, r. i have xp pro, media center edition so i should be ok. mario mentioned his needs a wall wart ac adapter. i'm hoping to get one that takes power from the +/- 5v on the usb buss. i read about some (even the pg music ones) that are starved for current unless you use a 'y' adapter and two usb ports. any thoughts on that?

re: flooding. my nurse's aide said she went fishing yesterday and the concrete picnic tables at her favorite river campsite were under 6 feet of water and the river was swollen to twice its normal width but she managed to catch a big catfish. which reminds me...not until moving down to oklahoma had i seen catfish fritters and deep-fried okra for sale in convenience stores. its a culture thing, i guess.

I haven't eaten dinner yet, and that catfish and okra sounds real good.

I'm not the best one to ask about the drive, but from my POV I'd say use the power supply. The first Ultrapak HD I got was defective. It fried my motherboard USB bus and three accessory cards before I figured out it was the drive. PG replaced it, but I've only used the replacement drive to install the program. I'm still a little nervous about using it and frankly afraid to leave it plugged in.

I was gonna say it's a Southern thing, until the convenience store bit registered. Haven't even seen the catfish fritters in Georgia . . . not that I was looking. Good eatin' though, the both of them, when done right. (Wait--but we have boiled peanuts! Why, I have no idea.)

gene the fritters and okra are deep fried like in a chicken batter and they are tasty. but, agreed, its all in how they are cooked like r said.

ps: 'convenience store' = 7-11 or kum-n-go, etc. most gas stations have a deli with fritters and okra.

Perhaps not a grammar lesson, but an engineering lesson.

Years ago a civil engineering prof from New York state was visiting our hydro-meteorology research project, and he made the comment that water never flows OVER an earth fill dam, only THROUGH one. Which pretty much defines what breach means.

FYI there is only +5VDC available at the USB connection point.

Not to worry, though, with a bit of switching power magic in the target device, that 5V at 2A can be turned into a minus voltage if needed, even brought up to a higher voltage level than 5V at a lower current rating, of course. Oscillators 'n coils with a cap or two...

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
