Saturday night at our monthly concert at the local music hall, we decided to hang the Zoom H2 recorder from the ceiling and see what kind of recording we would get from it during our show. We had the recorder about 20-25 feet down the center of the auditorium from the stage speakers. We turned it on, hit record, and here's one of the songs we did that night. Not too bad, in my opinion, for a $200 small recorder the size of a pack of cigarettes.

What do you all think about it ???? CLICK HERE for it

Oh, and by the way......... a little reverb, compression and EQ were added.

Ray,

You can't beat that little recorder. I record our concerts and touch them up a bit in PT. Take a listen on the Imperial Web Site below.

Harold, I've used it as a microphone with RealBand to record some songs. But I had never used it as a recorder in a public place to catch the performance.

I do NOT regret my purchase of this little recorder. It's a good find.

Good ensemble made of good musicians, good overall blend and sound, the H2 captured that.

Ray, that sounded really fun. Good Johnny Cash-like vocals with the singer and the ivories were giggling!

Amazing quality. Nice job by the musicians - you blended very well.
Mix in some prison atmosphere and you could sell it as a bootleg !

Ray, I enjoyed listening to what the Zoom H2 recorder can capture in a live concert. I love the one I just bought and eager to learn more about how the settings work in different environments.

Can you list the settings you used--Wav vs Mp3 etc., speakers, front/back

I have a DP004, and the quality of the built-in condenser mics is amazing for an item about the size of a paperback book. It uses SD cards for storage. There are some terrific portable recorders out now for reasonable prices.

Of course, no matter how good the recorder, it's the band that counts, and the music was excellent. Thanks.

Hi Joan. Thank you and the other forum members for the kind comments.

Joan, since the recorder was about 20-25 feet from the stage, I used the BACK (120 degrees span), and I recorded directly to WAV with a 512 MB SD card (I got about 48 minutes). I Had the GAIN set for Medium and the volume associated with the gain at 100. That was pretty much it. When I got home that night, I downloaded the 500 MB file and of course it's ONE TRACK.... I then loaded that into RealBand and gave it a little reverb, EQ, compression, and LIMITER........... that's it.

Hope that helps.

Good recording and rendition of that J. Cash tune. I recently got the Zoom H4n recorder and have tried it live with my small group. I'd post something if I knew how and where to do it.

Wow man that sounded great! It is amazing what that little recorder will do. I just purchased a zoom r16 and it would be great for recording live as well because it is so small. The outboard mics are awesome though. The group sounds great.

That sounds great Ray.

It’s good to here you’re still playing and playing quite well I might add. The band sounds super.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
