Hi.
I just got an 'error 230' out of Power Tracks Pro from a MIDI file I created in BIAB. I know the problem is with BIAB because Windoze Media Player craps out when I play the same MIDI file...no problem playing non-BIAB produced MIDI files. Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi C/Guy,
I have just loaded BIAB-created MIDI files into PTP and all works well. I'm not sure why it does not work ok for you. A couple of ideas spring to mind, though, that might be worth investigating.
1. Does the MIDI load back into BIAB ok?
2. Have you tried a couple of different MIDI creations to see if it is a consistent error?
(It might be that there was a computer glitch in creating your file and, as a result, the file was corrupted. The above would double check that it is indeed a problem.)
3. Check what versions of the software you have and download the latest software update for it.
4. If all else fails, it might be worth resetting to factory settings (Options >> Return to factory settings).
Regards, Noel

Could be the case that only one MIDI file got corrupted somehow.
Have you tried creating another MIDI file with BIAB using another songfile?
The PGMusic Demo songs represent a fast way to test that. Load a Demo Song and make a MIDI file out of it.

I think I've figured it out. If the 'Memo' field is blank on the main screen (and I specifically mean the 'Memo' field on the main screen; the 'Memo' field on the popup screen seems not to be a factor) and you create a MIDI file, that MIDI will be corrupt and crash PTP w/an 'Error: 230'. The Windoze Media Player will lockup and who knows what other programs will do. I've reproduced this several times now so I'm sure this is the problem. Others might try reproducing it as well. It seems to me that this is a BUG, and a pretty well obscure one too.

Which memo field are we talking about. Is it the song title field (the one that says "Untitled Song" when you do a file-new? If I blank that one out, and make a MIDI file, it loads in OK for me to RealBand.

It's the 'Song Title' field. I actually just reporduced this again, causing Windows Media Player to lock up. If I blank out the 'Song Title' field, and create a MIDI, the MIDI will crash PTP w/an 'Error: 230' and lock up Windows Media Player if I try to play the MIDI file in those programs. I don't know about RealBand since I don't use it. BTW I'm running BIAB 2009 on Windows Home Vista. Solution is simply to never leave 'Song Title' blank. Very obscure bug none the less.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
